My reply to an unguarded writer against Commissioner Okey Kanu

My reply to an unguarded writer against Abia State Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu

By Charles Ogugbuaja, Ph.D.

My attention was today, drawn to a short diatribe authored by someone very correct to be described as a lazy and unguarded writer.

I am not in the Abia State government. I am only a deep supporter of the about three years transformational government going on in our dear state. This is the first of its kind. It had not happened in the 24 years prior to the enthronement of the present administration in 2023. Even the blind and the deaf can see and hear about the way Governor Alex Chioma Otti, is prudently , utilizing the resources available to the state in the infrastructural revolution and human capital development of Abia State.

Therefore, anyone who tries to say any half -truth, I will not hesitate to tell the actual truth from what I have heard and seen.

It is very clear, going by the slant of the author’s write -up, he was sponsored or induced to throw such kite, and perhaps, wanting to do an open gossip, in order to attract the attention of the transformational Chief Executive of Abia State, His Excellency, Gov Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, to hire him and replace him with the Commissioner. God forbid. That is a failed mission, dead on arrival.

Though, he posted his poorly punctuated and legion of grammatically, flawed trash on his  facebook wall and other social media outlets, I will not mention his name because he does not deserve further public attention.

For obvious reasons, this reply will be done in simple words to communicate effectively to all categories of our numerous readers. I urge him and his readers to pay attention to this reply.

In the writer’s attempt to paint the Abia State Government black, by my assessment, he ended scratching to cast undeserved aspersion against the Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, advising him to go beyond his schedule of duties, and unwarranted accusations.

May be, the satanic author is unaware that Gov Otti, has a history of picking people to work with him based on meritocracy. The governor is a first class Economist who excelled in the banking field. He clinched the apex position of the Chief Executive of the Diamond Bank before he left.

The Governor came to govern Abia prepared, assembling a team of Commissioners and other aides. He has a way of assessing anyone he engages over time. His gift of brilliance and intellectual capacity is imbedded from birth. It is just the truth. That is why you hardly can point any of his aides, he fired unjustly. He is thorough, prophetic and futuristic in executing tasks.

In the case of Prince Kanu, many are unaware that our Governor spotted his intelligence long ago, I was told that, the Hon. Commissioner was identified in the banking industry where both did very well; where they showcased their talents, dexterity, prowess and necessary proclivities.  So, in Gov Otti’s quest to recruit those endowed with fecundity to deliver, he picked Prince Kanu to man that strategic portfolio, Information Ministry.

From what I know about Prince Kanu, he is from a royal family, well mannered and rare to be angered. He is very amiable, easy- going, intelligent and ready to work with even mad men. He is also a workaholic who works with supersonic speed, ready to deliver results. That is to say that it is not far from the truth, to describe him as a human resource manager.

The narrow -minded writer mentioned culture as embedded in the ministry Prince Kanu heads. It is untrue. Prince Kanu knows his onions. He is only in charge of the Ministry of Information. Other Commissioners are in charge of Youth and Culture. That is to say that as the spokesperson of the Abia State Government, any area he is authorized to speak on, he will not hesitate to do so. That is why he briefs journalists regularly, especially, after the weekly (Mondays) State Executive Council (EXCO) meetings.

In Abia State, I am aware that no Commissioner usurps duties. Every Commissioner discharges duties according to the areas of engagement and mandate. They can work collaboratively, without overlapping functions. The same cascades to other aides.

Following up the EXCO meeting briefing, on Tuesdays, Prince Kanu briefs the enter state and beyond on a one hour interactive programme (between 11.05a.m. and noon) on the state owned radio station, the Broadcasting Corporation of Abia State (BCA), also aired simultaneously on many other radio stations domiciled in Umuahia, Aba and other parts of the state. It is a phone in programme. He answers all the questions and text messages during the programme. He talks on every part of information at his disposal, sharing with Abians, residents and beyond. I always listen and contribute.

The author of that trash should do well and listen to the Executive Brief on those stations every Tuesday, between 11a.m. and noon.

Another big information dissemination centered programme that takes place around 7p.m. at Government House, Umuahia, capital of Abia State, is the Monthly Media Chat “Gov Otti Speaks to Abians.” I ask, who drafted and packaged it from onset? Prince Kanu and other media team of the governor are responsible.

Today, the governor briefs Abians, residents and the world through briefing, questions, answers and other closing remarks’ sessions, at a designated day of the last week of the month.

A question is often asked in Igboland, “nmadu oga egbu agu ole tupu apko ya ogbu agu?” meaning, “How many lions will someone kill before the title of lion killer is conferred on him?” This is a question that the unguarded author should answer considering what he wrote against workaholic Prince Kanu.

The writer of that diatribe should know it that the Honorable Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, is a part of the success story of Gov Alex Otti, OFR, in Abia State.

Dr. Ogugbuaja, an advocate of good governance, leadership, and a deep supporter of the ongoing good governance in Abia State, holds  a B.Sc. (Mass Comm), an M.Sc. (Mass Comm), an M.Sc.
