Arochukwu Emerges Winner of Ikenna Ukwa Unity Cup, Clinches ₦1 Million Prize

Arochukwu LGA has emerged as champions of the Ikenna & Jenn Ukwa Unity Cup, a football tournament sponsored by Hon. Hon Ikenna Nicolas Ukwa, APC flagbearer for Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency, and his wife, Lolo Jennifer E. Ukwa in collaboration with Ikenna Ukwa Progressive Group.

The match, played on Sunday 14th June 2026 at the playground of Aggrey Memorial College, Arochukwu, saw Arochukwu LGA defeat Ohafia LGA 2-0 to lift the trophy. The football competition brought together teams from across the two LGAs that make up the federal constituency, with the aim of promoting unity, youth engagement, and grassroots sports development.

Speaking before performing the official kickoff of the tournament, Chief Ikenna Nicolas Ukwa said the competition was designed to provide a platform for young talents in Arochukwu and Ohafia to showcase their skills while promoting peace and togetherness among the two sister LGAs.

“Sports is a unifying tool. This Unity Cup is about more than winning trophies. It is about building bonds, engaging our youths productively, and proving that Arochukwu and Ohafia can compete healthily and still remain one family,” Ukwa stated.

As winners, Arochukwu LGA received a cash prize of ₦1,000,000, while Ohafia LGA, as runners-up, went home with ₦700,000.

The event attracted traditional rulers, political leaders, party faithful, and a large turnout of supporters from across Arochukwu and Ohafia.

Recall that, the sports enthusiast, Ikenna Ukwa had sponsored a similar tournament last year for all the communities in Ohafia clan, where the winners went home with trophies and handsome prizes, even as he has promised to make it an annual event for all the clans in the federal Constituency to further strengthen youth participation in sports and harnessing of skills for the betterment of the society.
