The Abia State government has promised to withdraw the suit it instituted against the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, MOUAU, over alleged non-remittance of Pay As You Earn, PAYE, tax, to the state. The state Board of Internal Revenue, BIR, had two years ago, filed a suit against the University over alleged unremitted PAYE tax. Governor Alex Otti, who pledged while receiving the management team of the university who came on a courtesy call on him, promised to direct the State Board of Internal Revenue to discontinue the legal action against the University. Ex–Lawmaker, Uzosike Dumps Party After Meeting Gov Otti The ranks of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State depleted further with the defection of Jery Uzosike, the immediate past lawmaker representing Umuahia South State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly. Uzosike, a lawyer by profession, announced his exit from the party hours after meeting Governor Alex Otti on Sunday. In his letter of resignation addressed to the state chairman of the party through his Ohiaocha ward chairman dated March 11, 2024, Uzosike said his decision was “due to his conscience”, and the “desire” of his followers.
