- ABIA MEDICAL CITY AND HEALTHCARE COLLABORATION
In another major development within the last week, Governor Otti hosted Chief Medical Directors and Medical Directors of Federal Tertiary Hospitals in Nigeria.
The meeting focused on improving healthcare collaboration and advancing the proposed Abia Medical City.
The significance goes beyond meetings and speeches.
The Chief Medical Director of Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia disclosed that the Abia State Government is already constructing a 20-room VIP ward at FMC Umuahia.
He also commended Governor Otti for promptly intervening when the hospital’s two oxygen plants broke down.
The Federal medical leadership visiting Abia also acknowledged improvements in infrastructure and social services.
This is an administration strengthening healthcare not only through state-owned institutions, but also through strategic partnerships with federal medical institutions.

Another positive development came from the assessment of three specialised eye-care facilities established in Aba, Umuahia and Arochukwu.
The Registrar of the Optometrists and Dispensing Opticians Registration Board of Nigeria described the facilities as world-class following an accreditation inspection.
The facilities cover the three senatorial zones of Abia State and are expected to provide specialised eye-care services not only to Abians but also to patients from the South-East and South-South.
The inspection team specifically commended the quality and sophistication of the equipment deployed by the state government.
This is a practical example of healthcare investment reaching beyond political rhetoric into specialist medical infrastructure.

Within the same week, the Federal Government selected Abia State as the proposed location for the South-East Regional Rehabilitation Centre for returning migrants and vulnerable persons.
