OTTI, NYSC ALLOWANCES AND THE POLITICS OF DELIBERATE MISINFORMATION
There is a clear difference between constructive criticism and the deliberate twisting of facts for political entertainment.
Governor Alex Otti approved an enhanced allowance for members of the National Youth Service Corps serving in Abia State. When the new NYSC State Coordinator, Mr Yunusa Tanimu, informed him that the approval had not been fully implemented, the Governor did not defend the delay, blame previous administrations or pretend that everything was perfect.
He expressed surprise and immediately ordered the removal of every administrative bottleneck delaying payment.
“I am surprised that the extra allowance that I approved has not been implemented. Please, can you ensure that whatever it is is dealt with immediately?” the Governor directed.
That is not disdain for welfare. It is a Governor confronting an implementation failure and demanding immediate correction.
The critic’s argument defeats itself. How can the same person acknowledge that the Governor approved the allowance, yet accuse him of deliberately refusing to pay it? Approval and implementation are separate administrative stages. Once the implementation gap was brought directly to the Governor’s attention, he ordered that it be resolved without delay.
Rather than acknowledge this decisive intervention, the opposition storyteller introduced an unverified family conversation concerning ASPIMS workers and attempted to present it as conclusive evidence against the entire administration. Serious public discourse cannot be built on hearsay, anonymous salary comparisons and emotional name-calling.
Any genuine complaint about unpaid wages or arrears deserves investigation and resolution. A responsible critic should provide verifiable employment records, payment schedules and the affected workers’ documented complaints—not abuse, mockery and sweeping conclusions.
The facts reported are straightforward:
The NYSC allowance was approved.
The Governor was informed of the implementation delay.
He publicly queried the failure.
He ordered the immediate removal of the bottlenecks.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the welfare of corps members.
Even the NYSC State Coordinator commended Governor Otti’s developmental strides and the administration’s sustained support for the scheme.
Governor Otti did not hide from the problem. He faced it publicly and demanded action. That is what accountable leadership looks like.
Those who genuinely care about the welfare of corps members should support the immediate implementation of the Governor’s directive and monitor compliance. Turning every administrative delay into a festival of insults may excite political followers, but it does not put money into anybody’s account.
Facts do not become false because a critic shouts “wayoo.”
The Governor approved the allowance. He discovered that the directive had not been implemented. He ordered immediate action.
When the facts are this clear, propaganda collapses under its own noise.
