Betta Edu Was caught because she was fighting someone who she had reported had stolen N42bn – Adeyanju
Human rights activist Deji Adeyanju has expressed his perspective on the suspension of Betta Edu, stating that it is premature to draw any definitive conclusions about the effectiveness of her leadership in the wake of the suspension. Adeyanju highlighted that, in comparison, other ministers and ministries, particularly within the Ministry of Defense, have been involved in more severe misconduct than Beta Edu. The allegations against Betta Edu surfaced after a confrontation with an individual accused of misappropriating N42 billion. During this altercation, she claimed that the person had embezzled N3 billion from COVID funds allocated to her ministry and deposited it into their personal account, as reported by Punch.
According to Deji, “It will be too hasty to say Tinubu has started well. While I commended him for the decision he took, that suspension is just a metaphor. There is nothing Betta has done that other ministers or ministries are not doing. Worse things are being done in the Ministry of Defense and other ministries. I have challenged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on this.
“If we are interested in the truth, the only reason Berta was caught was because she was apparently fighting someone who she had reported had stolen N42bn. The person was loyal to the former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs. And because they were engaged in a tug of war, the lady said, ‘You are also a thief. You stole N3 billion of the COVID fund that was given to the ministry, and you paid one of them into a private account’ and so on.”
