The Prime Minister of the Republic of Guinea Bissau, His Excellency, Nuno Gomes Nabiam has paid an official visit to his Portuguese counterpart and Prime Minister, His Excellency, António Costa, in a bid to strengthen the bilateral relationship that has existed between the two countries for many years.
Since he emerged as the Prime Minister of the promising West African Nation, Guinea Bissau, Nuno Nabiam has made it sacrosanct to build bilateral relationships with many countries as it is the only bedrock to advancing the economic, social and political development of his nation through viable engagement that will positively impact the life of the people of the Subsaharan Republic.
Having obtained their independence from Portugal on September 9, 1974, after the UN General Assembly condemned Portugal for its “illegal occupation” of Guinea-Bissau on November 2, 1973, and PAIGC rebels killing of six Portuguese government soldiers near Tite on January 23, 1974, which events culminated to Guinea-Bissau formally attaining its independence from Portugal, the relationship as a parent-state between the two independent nations has remained mutually beneficial.
But just like many African nations, successive leaders of Guinea Bissau had not done a lot to push for speedy development of the Republic either due to lack of political will or reluctance to pursue people-oriented policies home and abroad. However, the combination of General Umaru Sissoco Embalo as the President and Engr Nuno Nabiam as the Prime Minister has guaranteed a steady impact on the developmental indices of Guinea Bissau due to the zeal and patriotism they have attached to the advancement of their nation.
It is therefore not subject to speculation that the Nuno visit to Portugal will eventually widen the prospects for the advancement of Guinea Bissau in collaboration with her parent-state, which are always open to discussion for mutual benefits of the two countries.
