2027: NDC Pegs Presidential Form At N60m, Gov’ship At N30m; Releases Timetable

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced the timetable for the sale of nomination forms, screening of aspirants and conduct of primary elections ahead of the 2027 general elections, with the party pegging its presidential ticket at N60 million and governorship ticket at N30 million.

The party disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday and jointly signed by its National Chairman, Senator Moses Cleopas Zuwoghe, and Secretary, Barrister Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu.

According to the statement, the sale of Expression of Interest Forms will begin on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, and end on Monday, May 18, 2026.

.The party said screening and interview of aspirants would hold between May 19 and May 21, adding that only aspirants cleared during the exercise would be eligible to purchase nomination forms.

“The sale of Nomination Forms will commence immediately after the screening exercise, from Thursday, May 21, to Saturday, May 23, 2026, while completed forms must be submitted on or before Monday, May 25, 2026,” the statement said.

The NDC further stated that appeals arising from the screening exercise would be entertained on May 25 and 26, while primary elections for various elective offices are scheduled for May 27 and 28, 2026.

According to the timetable, the party’s presidential primary election will hold on May 29, 2026, in Abuja.

The opposition party also explained that aspirants seeking tickets for State Houses of Assembly would be screened in their respective states, while screening for National Assembly and presidential aspirants would take place at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja.

It added that governorship primaries would be conducted at the local government level.

The party said all aspirants would be required to sign an undertaking in line with its guidelines and code of conduct.

The NDC also announced the adoption of the open secret ballot system for its primary elections, which it said was aimed at ensuring credibility, fairness and internal democracy.

Giving a breakdown of the approved fees, the party stated that aspirants for State Houses of Assembly would pay N1 million for the Expression of Interest Form and N1.5 million for the Nomination Form.

House of Representatives aspirants are to pay N2 million for the Expression of Interest Form and N4 million for the Nomination Form, while Senate aspirants will pay N3 million and N5 million respectively.

Governorship aspirants are expected to pay N10 million for the Expression of Interest Form and N20 million for the Nomination Form, bringing the total cost to N30 million.

For the presidency, aspirants will pay N20 million for the Expression of Interest Form and N40 million for the Nomination Form, amounting to N60 million in total.

The party, however, announced concessions for female aspirants and persons living with disabilities, stating that women would pay 50 per cent of the approved fees while persons living with disabilities would pay only 25 per cent across all categories.

The NDC maintained that its nomination fees remained among the lowest when compared to those charged by other major political parties in the country.

The party reaffirmed its commitment to conducting transparent and credible primaries capable of producing competent candidates for the 2027 general elections.
