PROGRESSIVE PATRIOTS, OHAFIA LGA CHAPTER, URGE RT. HON. DR. BENJAMIN OKEZIE KALU, CFR, TO CONSIDER THE 2027 ABIA STATE GOVERNORSHIP RACE
The Progressive Patriots, Ohafia LGA Chapter, a purpose-driven coalition committed to the transformation and sustainable development of Abia State, respectfully urges the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Dr. Benjamin Okezie Kalu CFR, to consider offering himself for service as a candidate in the 2027 Abia State governorship election.
In a statement issued by its Director, Chief Eme Uche, the group noted that Rt. Hon. Kalu has distinguished himself through exemplary legislative performance, strategic leadership, and a strong commitment to progressive governance. His experience in national policymaking and legislative administration positions him as a credible and unifying leader capable of driving the next phase of Abia State’s development.
The group emphasized that his national leadership experience demonstrates the capacity to attract federal presence, development partnerships, and investment opportunities essential to economic growth and social inclusion. His national and international exposure, they added, provides the strategic advantage needed to reposition Abia State as a hub for investment, innovation, and industrial expansion.
They further highlighted his role as Deputy Speaker in strengthening legislative efficiency, consensus-building, and democratic governance. His strong national network, the group noted, places him in a strategic position to attract federal infrastructure projects, industrial investments, and development funding critical to the state’s growth. His understanding of policy reform and industrial development also aligns with Abia State’s urgent need to modernize manufacturing, promote small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and create sustainable employment opportunities for youths and women.
Chief Uche also emphasized Rt. Hon. Kalu’s commitment to youth empowerment, education, entrepreneurship, and skills development, describing these as vital to reducing unemployment and enhancing productivity. He further noted the lawmaker’s inclusive leadership style and ability to build consensus across political, ethnic, and regional lines, making him a bridge-builder capable of fostering unity and stability across Abia State.
The group expressed confidence in his dedication to institutional reforms, transparency, and responsible public resource management, stressing that at this critical stage in Abia State’s political and economic trajectory, tested leadership with a clear vision for industrial growth, infrastructure renewal, institutional strengthening, and inclusive prosperity is urgently required.
As a demonstration of its conviction, the Progressive Patriots, Ohafia LGA Chapter, expressed its willingness to fully cover the nomination fees associated with the 2027 gubernatorial election as a symbolic commitment to encouraging capable leadership and responsible service.
This call, the group stated, is made in the overriding interest of the people of Abia State, with the firm belief that leadership must be driven by capacity, integrity, vision, and commitment to the common good. The group therefore expressed confidence that Rt. Hon. Kalu will give this patriotic appeal thoughtful and favourable consideration.
