Ikenna and Jenn Ukwa Foundation Hold Free Medical Outreach for Nkporo People
The Ikenna and Jenn Ukwa Foundation, in collaboration with the Ikenna Ukwa Progressive Group, on Saturday embarked on a free medical outreach and eye screening exercise for residents of Nkporo in Ohafia LGA of Abia State.
The medical outreach, aimed at bridging healthcare gaps for the elderly, women, and children in rural communities was held at the Cottage hospital, Nkporo and approved by the Abia State Ministry of Health.
Speaking during the event, co-founder of the Foundation, Hon Ikenna Nicolas Ukwa, who made a special appearance at the venue, said the initiative was borne out of the need to ensure that no one is denied access to healthcare because of cost and designed to give the elderly, women, and children access to quality healthcare.

He noted that the foundation, alongside his wife, Lolo Jennifer E. Ukwa has sustained such interventions for decades and assured residents that a larger medical outreach is being planned for the near future and will be replicated in all the clans that make up the federal Constituency.
“My wife, Jennifer, and I founded this foundation on the principle of service. For decades we have been doing this quietly, but the need is growing. Today, we are here for the elderly who cannot walk long distances for care, and for the children who deserve a healthy start. We felt the need to bring healthcare closer to our people. Many households cannot afford drugs and basic medical checks. This is our way of giving back and we promise to do more,” Chief Ukwa said.
In addition, Chief Ikenna Nicolas Ukwa who promised to fund a free hernia surgery for kids children who he met at the outreach said this is just the beginning as more enlarged medical outreach is coming soon to cover more communities in Arochukwu/Ohafia. He directed the Resident doctor of the cottage hospital, Dr Ufere Okeaso Ndukwe to commence the medical procedure for the children to undergo the surgery in the hospital.
The Men and the Women who benefitted from the exercise expressed gratitude to the foundation for the gesture. They said the free medical services came as a huge relief, adding that the intervention would help many who struggle to afford treatment. They commended Chief Ikenna Ukwa and his wife for their goodwill and the quality of drugs used and offered prayers for their continued success.
One of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Comfort said, “I have been having issues with my eyes and blood pressure for months but I had no money for hospital. Today, they tested me, gave me glasses and drugs free of charge. May God bless Chief Ikenna and his wife. This is the kind of help we need in our village.”
Mr. Azu Uka while reacting said, “Most of us here cannot afford to buy drugs when we are sick. This outreach has saved many homes. The doctors attended to us well and explained our health conditions. We pray God continues to lift Chief Ikenna Ukwa and his wife so they can do more.”
The exercise recorded over 300 beneficiaries, comprising men, women, and children, while the services rendered included:
- Physician Assessment
- Vital Signs Screening
- Blood Pressure and Blood Sugar Screening
- Free Eye Screening and Glasses
