ONE SOCIAL-MEDIA COMMENT IS NOT THE POSITION OF THE ABIA STATE GOVERNMENT

The attempt to portray the Abia State Government as supporting impunity over an alleged accident involving an electric bus is misleading.

The statement being circulated was made by an individual on social media. It is neither an official government declaration nor a lawful determination of responsibility.

No driver—whether operating a government bus, private vehicle, tricycle or motorcycle—is automatically innocent or guilty because of who owns the vehicle.

Responsibility for any road accident must be established through:

  • eyewitness accounts;
  • examination of the vehicles and accident scene;
  • traffic and security reports;
  • available video evidence; and
  • a fair investigation by the appropriate authorities.

The Abia State Government does not endorse reckless driving, injustice or the intimidation of road users. Government-owned buses and their drivers remain subject to traffic laws and established disciplinary procedures.

Likewise, a crowd at an accident scene and an emotional social-media post cannot replace evidence or a proper investigation.

Anyone injured or whose property was damaged has the right to report the matter, present evidence and seek appropriate redress.

The responsible position is simple: investigate the incident, establish the facts and hold whoever is responsible accountable—without political manipulation or premature judgment.

It is therefore dishonest to take the careless words of a private supporter and present them as Governor Alex C. Otti’s policy or the official position of the Abia State Government.

GOVERNMENT OWNERSHIP DOES NOT CONFER IMMUNITY.

ACCUSATION DOES NOT ESTABLISH GUILT.

LET THE FACTS DETERMINE RESPONSIBILITY.
