NDDC HANDS OVER PROJECT SITE TO CONTRACTOR FOR THE INSTALLATION OF SOLAR POWERED STREET LIGHTS IN AROCHUKWU, ATTRACTED BY IKENNA NICOLAS UKWA
On Friday 2nd May 2025, the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC officials from Abia State led by the Head of Project , Engr Mrs Joy Ejim handed over the project site to the contractor, Kaplan Consult limited for the installation of 233 units of solar powered street lights attracted by Hon Ikenna Nicolas Ukwa , the Senior Legislative Aide to the Senate President of Nigeria.
Speaking earlier, the Senior Project Manager of NDDC, Abia State, Engr Ndubuisi Nkwoka said his team are here on behalf of the Abia State Director of NDDC, Prince Azubuike Nwaubani and the Commissioner representing Abia State at the NDDC, Chief Eruba Dimgba to officially handover the site to the contractor to enable him commence work. He said the NDDC has the mandate to lighten up all the areas in the region, and urged the community to cooperate with the contractor and give him all the necessary support to complete the project according to the job specifications.
In their respective speeches, the traditional ruler of Obinkita Arochukwu, HRH Eze Precious O. Ngwu and the former Chairman of Arochukwu LGA, Chief Chijioke Jonas thanked the NDDC for approving the project and coming to handover the site to the contractor. They said Arochukwu is known as the home of peace, hence, assured that they will provide maximum security for all the equipment including the contractor and all the workers and give them the enabling environment that will help them carry out the project seamlessly.
They also thanked the project facilitator, Chief Ikenna Nicolas Ukwa for his efforts and thoughtfulness, adding that the dividends of democracy they have been longing for is coming to actualization in their community. They promised never to relent in their resolve to support him in all his ambitions and further prayed to God to reward his good deeds and grant the community more good tidings.
In his speech, the project coordinator of Kaplan Consult limited, Engr Azike Chike Lawrence said the project specifications include the installation of 8 meters high 233 units of 100 watts solar powered street lights in Akama new market road , Obinkita and its environs in Arochukwu LGA of Abia State. He promised to carry out a quality job and assured that the project will be completed before the end of May 2025.
Recall that Hon Ikenna Nicolas Ukwa during the meeting he held with the APC stakeholders in Arochukwu on Sunday 20th April 2025 at Isimkpu hall informed the people that he has attracted the installation of solar powered street lights for the community through the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC and that work is expected to commence by May 2025.
Highlights of the meeting held at the residence of Ambassador Austin Orji was the signing of the contract form by the traditional ruler, youth leader, some of the community leaders, the NDDC officials and the contractor.
