With the theme ‘Accelerate The Fight Against Malaria For a More Equitable World’, the wife of ABIA State Governor Mrs Priscilla Otti observed World Malaria Day alongside global partners, including her office, the state Ministry of Health, and PanAfricare Consortium. Their activities encompassed awareness campaigns, workshops, and the distribution of insecticide-treated mosquito nets.
During the event, she stressed the importance of consulting healthcare professionals instead of self-medication, underscoring that not all fevers stem from malaria. She reiterated their dedication to combating malaria through strategic initiatives and revealed plans to introduce a malaria vaccine for Abia citizens.
Moreover, she urged nursing mothers to utilize our health centers, which are now receiving increased support from the state government, especially for antenatal care, to access Sulfadoxine/Pyrimethamine (SP) for Intermittent Preventive Treatment during pregnancy.
In a gesture of solidarity, she provided financial assistance and distributed over 50 bags of rice to attending nursing mothers. Additionally, she was honored to be crowned the malaria ambassador by the organizers.
