Abia State Government Bans Dubious Pageantry.
Abia State Government has banned all forms of beauty contest due to repeated reports of extortion and sexual exploitation of participants.
Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Entertainment and Tourism, Dr Martins Okey Justice also known as J.Martins made the disclosure while briefing newsmen in Umuahia.
He maintained that organisers of such events must have shown capacity, competence in character, they will be certified and screened by the government to confirm the veracity of their claims and ensure they comply with set guidelines.
“Some Individuals are taking advantage of our young girls in the name of Pageantry and make unfulfilled promises as well as use them as pimps to weathy men within and outside the state thereby jeopardizing their careers while seeking to wear a crown.
