Election Petition Tribunal Sacks Hon. Chief Ibe Okwara Osonwa, Declares High Chief Dan Chimezie Okeke Winner For Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency Election
National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Umuahia Abia has sacked the member representing Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency, Ibe Okwara of the Labour Party and declared APC’s Dan Chimezie Okeke winner of the February 25 National Assembly election in the constituency.
Not satisfied with the process of Osonwa’s emergence Chief Okeke had approached the court to seek the nullification of Hon. Osonwa’s election, alleging that he did not comply with the provisions of the Electoral law.
Convinced by his arguments the court while delivering in the petition on Monday in Umuahia, the three-member panel led by its Chairman Justice Adeyinka Aderegbegbe, granted the relief of the Petitioners and ruled that Hon. Ibe did not comply with the provisions of the Electoral Act.
It subsequently declared the APC candidate, the winner of the February 25 national assembly poll, and ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to withdraw the certificate of return issued to Hon. Ibe and issue a fresh one to Chief Okeke.
