JUST IN: Tinubu Reportedly Anoints Godswill Akpabio As Next Senate President, Barau To Deputize Him; APC Sources Reveal

Sources from the camp of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have revealed that former Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Senator Godswill Akpabio, is Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s anointed candidate for the office of the Senate President in the 10th National Assembly.

Recall that Senator Godswill Akpabio and Senator Jibrin Barau had reportedly intensified lobby yesterday, April 25th, with a visit to Tinubu at his Abuja residence.

According to Imran Muhammad, a chieftain of the APC, the outcome of the meeting favoured Godswill Akpabio who was anointed as the candidate for the Senate President.

Imran quoted APC sources as saying that Senator Barau was penciled for the Deputy Senate President.

According to him, Godswill Akpabio was favoured because of his contributions to the party including stepping down for the president-elect during the primary elections.

Imran’s tweet reads: “Sources at the Yesterday’s meeting said that Akpabio had been anointed as the candidate for the Senate President while Barau was pencilled for the Deputy Senate President. sources said, ‘Akpabio was favoured because of his contributions to the party including stepping down for the president-elect during the primary elections.

“He was also said to have delivered parts of South-South to the president-elect during the February 25 elections’.

“The pairing was deliberate; Barau would likely get the position of the Deputy Senate President.”

AttNews had reported that Godswill Akpabio and Barau’s meeting with Tinubu came a day after the President-elect returned to the country from France.

The publication noted that the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Abdulahi Adamu, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, were part of the meeting.

Others were Ogun and Ekiti State governors, Senators Olamilekan Adeola, Opeyemi Bamidele, Emmanuel Bwacha, Tokunbo Abiru and Hon. James Faleke.

Meanwhile, regarding Tinubu’s inauguration, a fresh motion on notice seeking to stop the him from being inaugurated as Nigeria’s new President on May 29, 2023, had been instituted at the Court of Appeal in Abuja.

The fresh suit is instituted by a presidential candidate in the 2019 Presidential election and constitutional lawyer, Ambrose Owuru and the defunct political party, Hope Democratic Party (HDP).
