VIDEO: I Won’t Stay A Day Longer Than Four Years As President Even With Gun A On My Head – Obi
2023 Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate Peter Obi, has said he would be ready to serve only one term as Nigeria’s president if elected.
AttNews reports that Obi made this known during an interview on News Central TV on Wednesday.
Speaking during the interview, Obi said a single four-year term would allow him focus on stabilising the country and handling urgent national problems.
According to him, the pressure and responsibility attached to leading Nigeria are too serious for anyone to remain in office longer than necessary without making real impact.
He said: “I want to be a one-term president because of stability. I would not stay a day longer than four years… even with a gun in my head.”
The former governor of Anambra State also attacked the country’s current economic situation. He claimed that the level of borrowing under the present administration had risen beyond what previous governments accumulated over the years.
Obi further said Nigeria’s condition had worsened economically and in terms of security. He argued that the nation’s standing globally had dropped in recent years and blamed poor leadership for the situation.
He also criticized the handling of insecurity across different parts of the country. Obi questioned why killings could happen in places such as Jos, Niger and Benue while national leaders remained in Abuja without immediate action.
According to him, leadership requires direct involvement during periods of trouble
He said leaders must visit troubled areas, understand the situation firsthand and provide practical solutions instead of remaining distant from events affecting citizens.
