Okon-Aku Crisis: Ikenga Gburugburu of Ohafia Calls for Thorough Investigation, Condemns Attempts to Blackmail Deputy Governor
Ambassador Dr. Osita Offor, popularly known as “De Ultimate Commander” and the Ikenga Gburugburu of Ohafia Ancient Kingdom, has expressed deep concern over the recent descent into chaos in Okon-Aku Autonomous Community, Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State.
In a statement made available to the press, Ambassador Offor described the crisis as unfortunate and avoidable, stressing that disagreements within communities should always be resolved through dialogue, reconciliation, and mutual understanding rather than violence. He lamented that the situation had escalated to a level that now threatens peace, unity, and social stability in the area.
According to him, violence has never solved any problem and only leaves lasting scars on communities, families, and future generations. He therefore urged stakeholders, community leaders, youths, and elders of Okon-Aku to embrace peaceful means of conflict resolution in the interest of lasting harmony.
Reacting to what he described as “fruitless and politically motivated attempts” to link the Deputy Governor of Abia State, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, to the crisis, Ambassador Offor strongly condemned such allegations. He described the insinuations as baseless, irresponsible, and an attempt at blackmail.
The Ikenga Gburugburu of Ohafia noted that Engr. Emetu is a young, responsible, and peace-loving leader who would not be involved in any act that threatens human life or communal peace. He insisted that dragging the Deputy Governor into the matter was a deliberate effort to score cheap political points and distract from the real issues surrounding the crisis.
Ambassador Offor called on relevant security agencies and government authorities to carry out a thorough, transparent, and unbiased investigation into both the remote and immediate causes of the Okon-Aku crisis. He emphasized that all those found culpable, regardless of status or affiliation, must be brought to justice to serve as a deterrent to others.
He further appealed to the people of Okon-Aku to remain calm and law-abiding, assuring them that justice would only be achieved through due process and cooperation with lawful authorities.
According to him, restoring peace in Okon-Aku is a collective responsibility that requires sincerity, restraint, and a genuine commitment to the common good of the community and Abia State at large.
