ABIA NORTH SENATORIAL DISTRICT 2027: A Call For Equity And Rotation
Why Senator Orji Uzor Kalu Should Step Down for an Ohafia Candidate.
His Excellency, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, the distinguished Senator representing Abia North, has had an illustrious political career. He represented the district in the House of Representatives (1992 Third Republic), served as Governor of Abia State from 1999 to 2007, and is currently serving his second term as Senator. His immediate younger brother, Hon. Nnanna Uzor Kalu, served as a member of the House of Representatives (2007) and is currently the South East Representative on the National Assembly Service Commission. The youngest brother has held positions including Chief of Staff, House of Representatives aspirant, and is now an APC governorship aspirant. Recently, his first daughter was nominated as an Ambassador by President Bola Tinubu.
While these achievements reflect the Kalu family’s significant contributions to Abia politics, the All Progressives Congress (APC) is not a personal estate, and Abia North Senatorial District should not be treated as a family affair. In the spirit of fairness, equity, and zoning, Senator Kalu should graciously support a capable candidate from Ohafia Local Government Area for the 2027 senatorial election.
The Case for Ohafia’s Turn in 2027
Abia North Senatorial District comprises five local government areas: Arochukwu, Bende, Isuikwuato, Ohafia, and Umunneochi.
Ohafia LGA, with its administrative headquarters at Ebem Ohafia, is a key part of the district and a significant contributor to electoral outcomes in Abia State. It ranks among the areas with strong voter turnout and influence.
Since the creation of Abia State in 1991 and the return to democracy in 1999, no indigene from Ohafia LGA has been elected as Senator for Abia North. Past senators have come from other LGAs in the district, including Bende (Senator Kalu’s base).
This imbalance calls for rotation to ensure inclusive representation. 2027 presents a perfect opportunity for Ohafia to produce the next Senator.

Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, known for his statesmanship, is expected to support his younger brother from Ohafia, Udumeze Chief Dr. Sam Anya (Akaekpuchionwa), a renowned philanthropist, businessman, and political leader.
Chief Anya’s track record of community service and empowerment makes him a worthy candidate to represent Abia North effectively in the Senate.
Let us unite for equity, progress, and a stronger Abia North in 2027. It is Ohafia’s turn!
