After Initial Silence, President Biden Congratulates Trump On Victory
United States President Joe Biden on Wednesday called President-elect Donald Trump to congratulate him on his victory against the Vice President Kamala Harris in the election.
President Biden also extended an invitation for Trump to visit the White House.
The 81-year-old president, who watched the unexpected election results unfold from the White House on Tuesday night, plans to address the nation on Thursday.
SaharaReporters earlier reported that shortly after 1:30 PM on Wednesday, Harris called Trump to formally concede defeat, and urged him to honor the “importance of a peaceful transfer of power.”
President Biden also spoke with Trump following the concession and reaffirmed his invitation to the White House. Biden’s address to the nation is scheduled for Thursday, Daily Mail reports.
President Biden also spoke with Vice President Harris on Wednesday after she conceded defeat, praising her for running a historic campaign, according to a source close to the president.
Meanwhile, Barbara Heineback, a former White House staffer under President Jimmy Carter and the first Black press officer for the First Lady’s office, criticized Harris for what she called a “classless” response, accusing her of being a “sore loser” for waiting too long to concede.
Harris, however, announced that she would deliver a speech to her supporters at Howard University.
Trump’s political comeback has been hailed as the “greatest in history,” with the former president securing a dramatic return to the White House early Wednesday morning.
