PRESS BRIEFING, PARADE OF CRIME SUSPECTS AND EXHIBITS BY CP DANLADI ISA, THE COMMISSIONER OF POLICE, ABIA STATE COMMAND, THROUGH THE POLICE PUBLIC RELATIONS OFFICER, ASP MAUREEN CHIOMA CHINAKA, HELD ON THURSDAY, 31ST OF OCTOBER 2024, AT THE COMMAND HEADQUARTERS, UMUAHIA

  1. We extend a warm welcome to you all to the maiden press briefing/parade of crime suspects of the 34th Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command CP Danladi Isa.
  2. The reason we are gathered is to update and keep the public informed about the Command’s continuous efforts in combating crime and fostering a secure environment conducive to socio-economic growth in the State.

  1. Since the assumption of CP Danladi Isa on the 18th of September 2024, strategic steps has been emplaced which include kinetic and non-kinetic approaches by the Command in combating crime and criminalities within its environs.
  2. The Command has succeeded in reducing incidents of murder, armed robbery, kidnapping, vandalism of Government properties, rape, and defilement. Suspects have been arrested, and various exhibits recovered, including firearms of different specifications, vehicles, and substances suspected to be illicit drugs. Additionally, trafficked children have been safely rescued. Cases have been charged to various courts resulting in successful prosecutions.
    However, we would like to highlight in summary the major achievements recorded by the Command.

  • 110 male suspects and 31 female suspects were successfully apprehended during various operations.
  • Rescue of 5 abducted children, 1 infant, and 17 victims.
  • Recovery of 5 locally made single barreled shotguns, 4 locally made double-barreled shotguns, 2 locally made single barreled long guns, 1 Dane gun, 1 pistol, 5 live cartridges, 1 expended cartridge, 1 vehicle, 1 Auto-rickshaw(tricycle), 2 motorcycles and 2 bicycles.
  • Recovery of substances suspected to be Cannabis sativa (Indian hemp)/substances suspected to be illicit hard drugs.
    Other recovered items include 56 rustled cattle, 2 saw blades, 1 sack bag, 1 sweater cap, one bag containing Nokia handset, 1 spanner, 2 big scissors, 2 pliers, 1 small torchlight, vehicle and motorcycle parts, armored wire cables, 2 welding gas cylinders, 1 screwdriver, some almaco frames, 1 axe/hammer head and others.

  1. ARREST OF SUSPECTS FOR BURGLARY/MURDER

SUSPECTS:
John Vincent ‘m’ 50 yr old
Emmanuel Sunday ‘m’ 45 yr old,
Amazi Efiong ‘m’ 70 yr old

On the 2/10/2024, we received a report from Bende Divisional Headquarters that same date at about 0830hrs, Mr Jacob Udo ‘M’ 78 yrs old and Mrs Dorcas Jacob ‘F’ 73 yrs old, of Ndiwo Itumbuzo Bende LGA Abia State but domiciled at Etiti-ulo in Bende LGA of same State, were found lying lifeless in a pool of blood in their compound at the aforementioned address. It was further discovered that several properties were carted away from the house.
Upon this report, the crime scene was visited and corpses deposited at the mortuary for autopsy. John Vincent ‘m’ 50 yr old, Emmanuel Sunday ‘m’ 45 yr old, Amazi Efiong ‘m’ 70 yr old all from Ndiwo Itumbauzo in Bende has been arrested in connection to the crime. Leveraging credible intelligence, two other principal suspects, were also arrested and the deceased phone was recovered from them. Investigation is ongoing at the State Criminal Investigation Department.

  1. RECOVERY OF RUSTLED CATTLE
    On the 18/10/2024, a report was made at SCID Umuahia that 7 youths were murdered, 1 bodily injured, and 65 cattle missing by yet-to-be-identified assailants at Lokpanta Cattle Market in Umunneochi LGA and Eziama Nunya in Isuikwato LGA, Abia state. Upon this report, Police operatives in collaboration with local guards from Seriki Hausa, has successfully recovered 56 of the missing cattle. Intensive operations are in progress to track down the remaining cattle and apprehend the assailants.

On October 2024, we received a report from Quick Intervention Unit (QIU) Umuahia that Chinwendu Ifeanyi ‘f’ and her mother Mary Ifeanyi ‘f’ of Mbarakuma Ubakala in Umuahia south LGA conspired and sold a one week old baby and ran and hid themselves at Isiala-Ngwa. Upon this report, officers from the above Formation apprehended the two suspects who confessed to the crime. Leveraging credible information, on the 16/10/2024, Ikechukwu Assumpta was also arrested in Owerri, Imo state where one pregnant girl and a six months old baby boy were rescued from her house. In furtherance of investigation, Police detectives raided an alleged orphanage home where 16 pregnant girls and a set of twins were rescued. The case has been transferred to Imo state Police Command for discreet investigation.

    On the 10/10/2024 at about 1340hrs, we received a report from Uturu Divisional Headquarters that some hoodlums invaded ABSU motor park situated at abia state university, using a locally made pistol and other instruments of violence to cause public disturbance. Upon this report, the scene of crime was visited and Emmanuel Chinonso “m” aged 30yrs old from Abayi community in osisioma ngwa and Gospel Kalu “m” aged 29yrs old from Etiti ngwabe community were apprehended. A locally made single barreled shotgun and one live cartridge were recovered from them. Case has been charged to court.

  1. ARREST OF SUSPECTS FOR ARMED ROBBERY
    SUSPECTS: Solomon obite “m” aged 33yrs
    EXHIBITS: One blue Kasea Motorcycle
    On the 30/09/2024 at about 1205hrs, we received a report from Uturu Divisional Headquarters that same date at about 1150hrs, a Qlink motorcycle with reg no. URU 583 QN, engine no. QL162FMJ-1RTTO5054, chassis no. QLKPCKBJ2RTT03604 valued eight hundred and seventy thousand, was snatched on gun point by unknown hoodlums with AK-47 rifle along Absu-isuikwuato road. Police operatives in collaboration with 143 Battalion Ovim ABSU and apprehended Solomon obite “m” aged 33yrs old who was identified by the complainant in connection to the crime and a blue Kasea Motorcycle with reg no. CHR- 074QG was recovered from the suspect. Case has been charged to court.
  2. ARREST OF SUSPECTS/RECOVERY OF SUBSTANCES SUSPECTED TO BE INDIAN HEMP
    SUSPECTS: 27 male suspects and 11 female suspects
    EXHIBITS: Substances suspected to be Indian Hemp
    Tramadol Drugs.
    On the 20/09/2024, operatives from Rapid Response Squad Aba raided a criminal hideout at Okigwe Road, arrested 11 female suspects and 27 male suspects and recovered several wraps of weed suspected to be Indian-hemp and tramadol drugs. 3 suspects have been charged to court while others were screened and released.
  3. ARREST OF SUSPECTS FOR UNLAWFUL POSSESSION OF FIREARMS
    SUSPECTS: Okechukwu Dibia ‘m’, 53yrs,
    Ezekiel Chitomogu ‘m’ aged 21yrs,
    EXHIBITS: Two welding gas cylinders
    Two single barreled long guns
    Two locally made double barreled shot gun

    On the 29/09/2024, at about 1435hrs, leveraging credible information, Police operatives attached to SCID Umuahia, apprehended Ezekiel Chitomogu ‘m’ aged 21yrs, a student of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, who was reported to be a notorious cultist terrorizing the academic environment. Upon investigation, Okechukwu Dibia ‘m’, 53yrs, from Ohuhu Nsulu was also arrested in connection to the crime and the following exhibits were recovered, two welding gas cylinders, two single barreled long guns, two locally made double barreled pistol, one single barreled pistol, two live cartridges, one expended cartridge and others under fabrication were recovered. Discreet investigation is in progress. The case has been charged to court.
  4. ARREST OF SUSPECTS FOR MURDER
    SUSPECTS: Uzoka Ebochie ‘m’ 40yrs
    On the 21/09/2024 at about 0830 hrs, we received a report at Central Police Station Umuahia, that Uzoka Ebochie “m” 40 yrs from Nkata Ibeku conspired with five other boys alleged to be members of Vikings Confraternity and murdered Chimaobi Anya Ojo over a misunderstanding. Police operatives from the above-mentioned Division visited the scene and apprehended the said Uzoka Ebochie. The case has been charged to court.
  5. ARREST OF SUSPECTS FOR STEALING
    SUSPECTS: Chisom Levinus ‘m ’22 yrs
    Chinonso Emeka ‘m’ 17 yrs old
    On the 21/09/2024 at about 1630 hrs, we received a a report from Isiala-Ngwa Divisional Headquarters that Chisom Levinus ‘m ’22 yrs old and Chinonso Emeka ‘m’ 17 yrs old from Nbawsi in Isiala-Ngwa North burgled into a shop and stole 5 power banks valued #152,000, 10 android phones of different trademarks valued #600,000 and one nokia button phone valued #17,000. Police operatives from the above Division visited the scene and apprehended the suspects who confessed to the crime. They have been charged to court and remanded at Correctional center Aba.
  6. ARREST OF SUSPECTS/RECOVERY OF FIREARM
    SUSPECTS: Pius Ngozi Onuoha ‘m’ 53yrs
    Sunday Onuoha ‘m’ 32yrs
    On the 22/09/2024, Police operatives from Central Police Station Umuahia in collaboration with 145 Battalion apprehended Pius Ngozi Onuoha ‘m’ 53yrs of Okwuta Umuahia and Sunday Onuoha ‘m’ 32yrs of Avonkwu community Umuahia who were armed with a single barreled shotgun, during a yam festival at okwuta community. The case has been charged to court.
  7. ARREST OF SUSPECTS FOR ABDUCTION/DEFILEMENT
    SUSPECTS: Chigozie Obiete ‘m’ 21yrs
    Osondu osinachi ‘m’18yrs
    On the 22/09/2024, we received a report from Isuikwato Divisional Headquarters that Chigozie Obiete ‘m’ 21yrs, Osondu osinachi ‘m’18yrs, Uche ‘m’ and one Daberechi surname’s unknown all from Amiyiobilohia Isuikwuato abducted and defiled a 13-yr old girl. Police detectives from the above division apprehended Chigozie Obiete ‘m’ 21yrs and Osondu osinachi ‘m’18yrs. The case has been charged to court.
  8. ARREST OF SUSPECTS/RECOVERY OF STOLEN
    VEHICLE
    SUSPECT: Anayo Osita Livinus, 30 yrs,
    EXHIBITS: A Toyota Camry car
    On the 22/09/2024 at about 1440hrs, Police Operatives attached to Eagle’s Quick Intervention Unit intercepted a Toyota Camry car, 2004 model with Reg no: LAGOS EKY412EY, Chasis no:4t1be32k03u208608, ash in colour and Engine no:2az7503467, driven by one Anayo Osita Livinus, 30 yrs, a native of Nneochile Ndiagbo in Aninri LGA of Enugu state. The said Anayo Osita Livinus could not give satisfactory explanation on the vehicle and attempted fleeing from the police officers. The suspect was arrested, and the vehicle recovered. Investigation revealed that the owner of the vehicle is Nwobodo Kosarachi Christian from No 1 Clifford Street coal camp, Ogbete In Enugu State who stated that the vehicle was given to his driver who absconded to an unknown destination. Investigation is in progress.
  9. ARREST OF SUSPECTS FOR CHILD STEALING/RESCUE OF VICTIM
    SUSPECTS: Timothy Chukwuemeka ‘m’ 27yrs,
    Valentine Nwaocha ‘m’ 53yrs
    RESCUED VICTIM: Martin Onye Ike “m” 7 yrs
    On the 02/09/2024, we received a report from Rapid Response Squad, that a 7yr old boy named Martin Onye Ike from Etiti-ulo Isiala in Bende was missing. Upon this report, officers from the above Police Formation arrested Timothy Chukwuemeka ‘m’ 27yrs, and Valentine Nwaocha ‘m’ 53yrs in connection to the crime. The child was successfully rescued and reunited with his family, suspects are in custody as investigation is ongoing to ensure other victims are rescued.
  10. ARREST OF SUSPECTS FOR VANDALIZATION OG GOVERNMENT PROPERTIES
    SUSPECTS: Chijioke Igwe “m” 23 yrs
    EXHIBITS: One sack bag
    One saw knife
    On the 25/09/2024 at about 1530 hrs, leveraging credible information, operatives from Bende Divisional headquarters in collaboration with local vigilantes arrested Chijioke Igwe “m” 23 yrs old from Umuhu-Ezechi who stole electric armored cables from the Water scheme health center at Ebem Ozuitem. A sack bag and a saw knife were also recovered from the suspect. Investigation is ongoing.
  11. ARREST OF SUSPECTS FOR ARM ROBBERY/RECOVERY OF FIREARM
    SUSPECT: Chinaza Onuoha ‘m’ 18yrs
    EXHIBITS: One locally made single barreled short

    On the 26/09/2024, we received a report from Ndiegoro Divisional Headquarters that Chinaza Onuoha ‘m’ 18yrs of no. 99 Lagos Street Aba and 2 others yet-to-be-identified, armed with a locally made short gun, robbed two siblings on their way to the market, and dispossessed them of their belongings. Officers from the above division in collaboration with well-meaning citizens apprehended the hoodlums and the stolen items were recovered. Other items recovered from the suspects include: one locally made short gun with one live cartridge, a sweater cap, a bag containing one small damaged Nokia handset, one spanner, one big scissors, one big plier and one small torch light. Investigation is ongoing at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).
  12. ARREST OF SUSPECTS FOR MURDER
    SUSPECT: Ikechukwu Igwe Amakiri 47yrs
    On the 27/09/2024 at about 1500hrs, wr received a report from Uturu Divisional Headquarters that Ikechukwu Igwe Amakiri ‘m’ aged 44 yrs old, stabbed his younger brother Chimobi Igwe Amakiri ‘m’ aged 30yrs to death due to a minor misunderstanding between them. Upon this report, police operatives from the above division visited the scene and arreste d the suspect. Discreet investigation is ongoing at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).
  13. ARREST OF SUSPECTS/RECOVERY OF SUBSTANCES SUSPECTED TO BE HARD DRUGS
    EXHIBITS:
    On the 27/09/2024 at about 1445hrs, Operatives attached to Rapid Response Squad Aba raided a notorious illegal drug market at Orji Uzor Bridge Aba, apprehended two suspects and recovered substances suspected to be hard drugs. Efforts are in place to apprehend the proprietors of the bunk. Suspects has been charged to court.
  14. ARREST OF SUSPECTS FOR MURDER
    SUSPECT: Uchechukwu Christian Igwebieke Okoroafor
    “m” 34 yrs
    On the 06/10/2024 at about 1748hrs, we received a report at Isuikwato Divisional Headquarters that Uchechukwu Christian Igwebieke Okoroafor “m” 34 yrs of Amiyi Ahaba Imenyi Isuikwato murdered Sunday Ibe “m” 79 yrs old over a minor misunderstanding between them. Upon this report, police operatives from the above Division visited the scene and arrested the suspect. Discreet investigation is ongoing at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).
  15. ARREST OF SUSPECTS FOR MURDER

    On the 19/09/2024 at about 0800hrs, a report was made at World Bank Divisional Headquarters that a corpse was lying at Grace Lodge, Umuana. Police Operatives from the above-mentioned Division visited the scene and apprehended the following suspects; Ikechukwu Victor Ofomadu “M” 25yrs, Okorie Nwankwo “m” 24yrs, Nwankwo Kelechi “m” 19yrs, Ebuka Chinemere “m” 31yrs, Chijindu Kalu “m” 19yrs, Divine Ndukwe “m” 22yrs, Elekwachi Delight “m” 22yrs, Onyemuwa Favour “f” 22yrs all residing at Grace Lodge Umuana in connection to the crime. Investigation is ongoing at SCID.
  16. ARREST OF SUSPECTS FOR STEALING
    SUSPECTS: Ndubuisi Peter “m” 45yrs
    Chisaramokwu Ogbonna “m” 48yrs
    EXHIBITS: Motorcycle and vehicle parts
    On the 07/10/2024, we received a report at Akwete Divisional Headquarters that Ndubuisi Peter “m” and Chisaramokwu “m” from Obohia Ndoki Community Ukwa East LGA broke into a workshop and stole some vehicles parts and tools. Upon this report, the scene was visited and the suspects apprehended. The motorcycle and vehicle parts were recovered from the suspects and charged to court.
  17. ARREST OF SUSPECTS FOR VANDALIZATION/STEALING
    SUSPECT: Oluebube Austin “m” aged 25 years
    EXHIBITS: Wire cables
    On the 07/10/2024 at about 1756hrs, we received a report at Ikwuano Divisional Headquarters that Oluebube Austin “m” aged 25 years of Nchara Oloko Community, was caught vandalizing and stealing wire cables, at Federal Hall project sited at Ahuwa Oboro. Upon this report, police operatives visited the scene and apprehended the suspect. The stolen properties have been recovered successfully. The suspect has been charged to court and remanded at correctional center.
  18. ARREST OF SUSPECTS FOR UNLAWFUL POSSESSION OF SUBSTANCES SUSPECTED TO BE HARD DRUGS
    SUSPECT: Twenty-five male suspects
    Fifteen female suspects
    EXHIBITS: Several wraps of dried weeds suspected to be
    Indian hemp and tramadol
    On the 11/10/2024 operatives from Rapid Response Squad Aba raided a criminal hideout at MCC road aba, arrested twenty-five male suspects and fifteen female suspects. Several wraps of dried weeds suspected to be Indian hemp and tramadol hard drugs were recovered from the suspects. Investigation is in progress. 4 suspects have been charged to court while others screened and released.
  19. ARREST OF SUSPECTS FOR MURDER/ARMED ROBBERY
    SUSPECTS: Emeka Ukwoma “m” aged 28yrs
    EXHIBITS: Armored cable

    On the 14/10/2024 at about 0700hrs, we received a report at Owerrinta Divisional Headquarters that security guards at Star Apermill Owerrinta waterside, were attacked by four armed men, who came to steal armored cable wires, and one of the security guards was murdered in the process. Upon this report, the crime scene was visited and Emeka Ukwoma “m” aged 28yrs was apprehended and the stolen armored cable, saw and scissors were recovered from him. Discreet investigation is ongoing at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).
  20. ARREST OF SUSPECTS FOR UNLAWFUL POSSESSION OF FIREARMS
    EXHIBITS: One baretta pistol
    On 15/10/2024 at about 1930hrs, leveraging credible information, police operatives attached to Arochukwu Divisional headquarters in collaboration with Army personnel apprehended 10 members of a notorious gang of Vikings Confraternity and recovered a baretta pistol without ammunition. Case has been charged to court.
  21. ARREST OF SUSPECTS FOR ATTEMPTED MURDER/UNLAWFUL POSSESSION OF FIREARMS
    SUSPECTS: Charles Chinasa ‘m’
    EXHIBITS: One Dane gun
    On the 16/10/2024 at about 1730hrs a complainant made a report at Bende Divisional Headquarters that he was attacked by Charles Chinasa ‘m’ of Ndiokorie-ukwu in Bende. The suspect, armed with a Dane gun shot him on the hand. Upon this report, the crime scene was visited and the suspect arrested. The Dane gun has been successfully recovered. Discreet investigation is in progress.
  22. ARREST OF SUSPECTS FOR KIDNAPPING/MURDER
    SUSPECTS: Udemgba Chizoba ‘f’ 32yrs
    On the 21/8/2024, we received a report at Serious Crime Investigation Squad Umuahia (SCISSORS) that a youth Corp member posted to Abia state was abducted and suspected to have been murdered after a ransom of over #2million was paid to the abductors. Upon this report, Police operatives from the above Police formation apprehended Udemgba Chizoba ‘f’ 32yrs from Ndi Okorie Oji okigwe in Imo state in connection to the crime. Case has been charged to court.
  23. RESCUE OF A KIDNAPPED VICTIM
    VICTIM: Blessing John “f” 6 yrs
    On the 20/10/2024 at about 0900hrs, we received a report at Ohuhu Divisional headquarters that Blessing John ‘f’ 6 yrs from Okpukpu Junction at Bende Road Umuahia was seen with a yet-to-be-identified man inside a bush at Ubani Umukama village at about 0300hrs. The victim stated that she was tricked by the suspect who is at large with a packet of biscuit, to leave her mother’s shop at Orie-ugba and followed the suspect to a bush at Umukama. Upon this report the victim was successfully rescued and reunited with her family.
  24. ARREST OF SUSPECTS FOR DEFILEMENTS/UNNATURAL OFFENCES
    SUSPECTS: Chidi Richard Chibundu ‘m’ aged 14yrs
    Bright Maduabuchi ‘m’ aged 15yrs
    Opara Ugbo ‘m’ aged 10yrs

    On the 22/10/2024 at about 1400hrs, we received a report at Isuikwato Divisional Headquarters that Chidi Richard Chibundu ‘m’ aged 14yrs, Bright Maduabuchi ‘m’ aged 15yrs, Opara Ugbo ‘m’ aged 10yrs and David Richard ‘m’, had unlawful carnal knowledge of 3 boys aged 13 yrs, 8 yrs and 6 yrs several times. It was also reported that the suspects threatened to kill the victims if they should tell anyone about it. Upon this report, scene of crime has been visited and the three suspects are under interrogation at the above division. The victims are currently undergoing medical examinations. Further investigation is ongoing at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).
  25. RAID OF CRIMINAL HIDEOUT/ARREST OF SUSPECTS
    SUSPECTS: Onyebuchi Rufus 38 yrs old
    EXHIBITS: One Motorcycle
    Two bicycles
    One tricycle
    On the 27/10/2024 at about 1520hrs, officers from Isiala-Ngwa North Division apprehended Onyebuchi Rufus “m” 38 yrs old during a raid criminal hideouts/illicit drug bunk. Items recovered include SYM motorcycle without reg no, two bicycles and one tricycle without reg number. The case has been charged to court.
  26. ARREST OF SUSPECTS FOR VANDALIZATION/STEALING
    SUSPECTS: Okoro Joshua Victor “m” aged 28yrs
    EXHIBITS: Some almaco frames
    One plier
    One screwdriver
    One axe/harmer head
    On the 27/10/2024 at about 1340hrs, we received a report from Ubakala Divisional Headquarters that same date at about 1005hrs, Okoro Joshua Victor “m” aged 28yrs from Umuawoli Umunwanwa and one other, yet-to-be-identified vandalized properties from the office of the Universal Basic Education situated at Ubakala, Umuahia South. Upon this report, officers from the above Division, apprehended the suspect and the following items were recovered; some almaco frames, one plier, one screwdriver, one axe/harmer head. Investigation is ongoing.
  27. ARREST OF SUSPECTS FOR ATTEMPTED MURDER
    SUSPECTS: Chinedu Okereke ‘m’ aged 33 yrs
    On the 29/10/2024 at about 1200hrs, we received a report from Isuochi Divisional Headquarters that on the 28/10/2024, Chinedu Okereke ‘m’ aged 33 yrs, Lokpanta Umuchieze Ummuneochi inflicted matchet cut injuries on the forehead of his elder brother Michael Okereke ‘m’ of same address over a minor misunderstanding. Upon this report, Police operatives from the above Division apprehended the suspect while the victim is currently undergoing treatment. Discreet Investigation is ongoing.
  28. ARREST OF SUSPECTS FOR DEFILEMENT:
    SUSPECT: Pastor Uche ‘m’
    On the 30/10/2024, at about 1315hrs,we received a report from Abiriba Divisional Headquarters that one Pastor Uche ‘m’ surname unknown defiled a four year old girl. Upon this report, officers from the above Division visited the scene and apprehended the suspect while the victim is currently receiving medical treatment. Discreet investigation is ongoing at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) Umuahia.
