Umahi Decries Poor East-West Road Construction, Orders Immediate Suspension
The Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, has passed a vote of no confidence in the contractors handling the East-West Road project.
During an inspection of the road on Wednesday, Umahi lamented the state of the road despite the N71 billion sunk into its rehabilitation by the Federal Government.
He said, “Let me pass a vote of no confidence in this road. I wouldn’t certify anything on this road. The road has completely failed and it is totally not acceptable to us.
“The worst is that we have seen the places we worked, they are full of potholes. There is no conscience to go back to put anything on it. This project has to stop and be reviewed.
“We are being brainwashed in this country. You are on site and the road is failing, you are still doing the same thing. Meaning that every four, three years, we’ll have to reconstruct our roads.
“This not acceptable, I’m not here to make the contractors happy. I’m here to make God, the President and Nigerians happy. We must have value for our money.”
