ENYIMBA GARMENT FACTORY: WHEN PROPAGANDA WEARS FACTORY OVERALL
The claim that Governor Alex Otti abandoned the Enyimba Garment Factory for more than three years is misleading and contradicted by the established timeline.
The factory was commissioned by the outgoing Okezie Ikpeazu administration on 27 May 2023—barely two days before Dr Alex Otti was sworn in as Governor on 29 May 2023.
It is therefore dishonest to portray the facility as a flourishing, long-running factory that Otti inherited and immediately shut down.
Reports shortly before the commissioning indicated that equipment installation was still ongoing. This raises serious questions about whether the factory had commenced full commercial production, maintained a regular payroll, generated substantial sales or accumulated the “retained profits” now being mentioned by political commentators.
No audited financial statements, production records, sales figures, payroll documents or evidence of accumulated profits have been presented to prove that Otti deliberately destroyed a profitable factory.
THE FACTS ARE STRAIGHTFORWARD:
The project was initiated under Governor Okezie Ikpeazu.
The factory was commissioned on 27 May 2023.
Governor Alex Otti assumed office on 29 May 2023.
Equipment installation was reportedly still ongoing shortly before the commissioning.
The facility was subsequently rehabilitated, re-equipped and repositioned under the Otti administration.
Pictures of overgrown grass may show that the surroundings were poorly maintained at a particular time. They do not prove that a profitable factory operated successfully for years and was deliberately abandoned for political reasons.
Commissioning a building is not the same as establishing a sustainable manufacturing operation.
Rather than manufacture outrage, the public should demand measurable results: actual production, sustainable employment, sales, profitability and professional management.
Projects belong to Abia State—not to Ikpeazu, Otti or any political party.
