ACHIEVEMENT · GOVTECH · SOUTH EAST NIGERIA
May 27, 2026 · Umuahia, Abia State

On May 25–26, 2026, something remarkable happened in Enugu.

After a rigorous month-long selection and evaluation process judged by some of the leading minds in Nigeria’s investment, technology, and innovation ecosystem, the South East Development Commission (SEDC) hosted the inaugural South East Venture Capital Programme (SEVCP) Competition at the International Conference Centre, Enugu.

The programme brought together over 1,200 startups and ventures from across Nigeria in what has become one of the most significant innovation and investment gatherings in Southeast Nigeria.

And on that national stage, SmartAIRS earned recognition.

A Room Filled with National Leaders and Innovation Executives:

What made the moment especially significant was not only the competition itself — but the calibre of leaders, policymakers, investors, and ecosystem executives present at the event.

The programme was witnessed by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, ably represented by the Coordinating Minister for Finance, Mr. Taiwo Oyedele.

Representatives of Southeast State Governments were present alongside the Chairman of the House Committee on Southeast Development, Chief Chris Nkwonta, heads of agencies including the Managing Director of MOFI and the Bank of Industry (BOI), and leaders from some of Nigeria’s most respected innovation and investment institutions.

The event also brought together executives and ecosystem leaders from MTN, Flutterwave, Andela, Ventures Platform, Ubulu Africa, Rise, Cascador, Tarre, and other prominent innovation organizations — supported by a distinguished panel of judges across Nigeria’s technology and venture ecosystem.

To stand before that audience and earn recognition was no small feat.

The Pitch:

At the International Conference Centre, Dr. Pastra Arinze Etie, Founder & COO of SmartAIRS, delivered a compelling 3-minute presentation positioning SmartAIRS as the intelligent revenue infrastructure platform built to modernize how African governments manage revenue operations, citizen compliance, and digital governance.

The presentation highlighted the urgent need for:

  • transparent revenue systems,
  • intelligent automation,
  • real-time monitoring,
  • digital compliance infrastructure,
  • connected payment systems,
  • and modern revenue administration across Africa.

The response from the audience, judges, and stakeholders reflected the growing importance of practical GovTech infrastructure capable of solving real public sector challenges at scale.

But beyond the pitch itself, one thing stood out clearly:

SmartAIRS was conceived, designed, and built in Umuahia, Abia State.

And Abia State shone.

What SmartAIRS Is Building:

SmartAIRS is not simply a payment platform.

It is an intelligent, end-to-end revenue infrastructure system built specifically for African governments, businesses, and citizens.

The platform brings governments, businesses, and citizens onto one connected, traceable, and automated revenue rail — simplifying administration, improving accountability, and enabling real-time operational intelligence.

For Governments:

SmartAIRS enables:

  • digital enumeration,
  • automated revenue collection,
  • payment processing,
  • enforcement operations,
  • reconciliation,
  • compliance monitoring,
  • operational visibility,
  • and reporting in real time.

For Businesses:

The platform provides seamless integrations connecting banks, payment providers, vendors, and government systems into one unified operational layer — reducing friction and simplifying compliance processes.

For Citizens:

SmartAIRS simplifies citizen interaction with government through self-service digital access, payment capabilities, guided support systems, and SmartAssist — its AI-powered tax assistant designed to improve accessibility and user experience.

This is the platform that stepped onto that stage in Enugu.

And it earned recognition.

The Recognition:

Recognition under the South East Venture Capital Programme (SEVCP) reflects SmartAIRS’ growing relevance as a scalable GovTech infrastructure platform capable of supporting digital governance, transparency, operational efficiency, and revenue modernization across Africa.

The recognition forms part of the South East Development Commission’s broader innovation and investment ecosystem initiative backed by a $50 million blended finance programme focused on supporting high-potential ventures across Southeast Nigeria.

The recognition was formalized through an official certificate issued by the South East Development Commission and signed by Mark Okoye, Managing Director and CEO of SEDC.

More importantly, the moment represents something bigger than one company.

It is proof that globally competitive technology can be conceived, designed, and built from Southeast Nigeria.

What It Means for Southeast Nigeria:

This achievement is a strong signal for the innovation ecosystem emerging from Southeast Nigeria.

It reflects the growing capacity of the region to produce scalable technology platforms capable of solving institutional and economic challenges at both national and continental scale.

For Abia State in particular, it represents a proud moment of visibility, innovation, and technological relevance.

“This is proof that world-class technology can be built from Southeast Nigeria — from Umuahia — and compete at the highest level. We built SmartAIRS to help governments operate more transparently, businesses comply more easily, and citizens access services more efficiently.”

— Dr. Pastra Arinze Etie

Indeed, it is a moment of gratification for the broader innovation ecosystem.

What Comes Next:

The mission remains clear.

SmartAIRS continues to build intelligent revenue infrastructure for African governments — expanding its capabilities, deepening its technology, and advancing the future of transparent, connected, and automated public revenue systems.

The revenue rail is being built.

Right here. Right now.
