ABOUT ₦1TRN “MISSING”? — STOP MISLEADING THE PUBLIC ON ABIA’S FINANCES

A writer who cannot distinguish between budget appropriation and actual revenue/expenditure has no business frightening the public with propaganda. Saying Abia “received ₦1.6 trillion in 2.5 years” is, at best, a reckless distortion. The state’s 2024 revised budget was ₦567.24bn and its 2025 final budget was ₦900.28bn—those are spending plans, not automatic cash receipts. Official Abia budget reports show actual 2025 total revenue (including opening balance) at ₦414.17bn, with actual expenditure at ₦409.56bn; for 2023, actual revenue was ₦113.13bn and expenditure ₦71.51bn. Even Abia’s 2024 Q1–Q3 report showed actual revenue of ₦255.93bn, not fantasy trillions. So before shouting about “₦1 trillion missing,” learn basic public finance: a budget is not money in the bank. What insults the intelligence of the people is not governance alone, but commentary built on arithmetic ignorance, political malice, and statistical illiteracy. Ask questions, yes—but ask them with facts, not fiction.
