2027 Senate: Abia North Youth Agenda Calls on Ambassador Osita Offor to Contest

Umuahia, Abia State | January 2026 – PRESS RELEASE

The Abia North Youth Agenda (ANYA) has called on Ambassador Dr. Osita Offor to formally declare his intention to contest the Abia North Senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections, citing his leadership credentials, commitment to peace, and alignment with the developmental vision of the present Abia State administration.

The youth-based pressure group stated that recent political developments across Abia North indicate a growing demand for credible, people-oriented leadership capable of sustaining the new governance standards currently being experienced in Abia State.

ANYA recalled that it had earlier announced its decision to begin unveiling candidates it intends to support for various elective offices within the zone. According to the group, such endorsements will be based strictly on antecedents, capacity, integrity, and the overall interest of the masses, stressing that Abia North can no longer afford leadership driven by sentiment or political convenience.

The group noted that the administration of Governor Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, has reset the benchmark for public service through transparency, fiscal responsibility, and people-focused reforms, and emphasized that Abia North must present leaders who reflect and reinforce this progressive governance philosophy.

In a statement jointly signed by the Coordinator of ANYA, Hon. Udoeze Kalu, the Secretary, Comrade Emilike Uwakwe, and the 5 LGA Chairmen of Abia North Zone, the group described Ambassador Dr. Osita Offor—popularly known as “De Ultimate Commander” and Ikenga Gburugburu of Ohafia Ancient Kingdom—as a tested and dependable leader whose record of service recommends him for higher responsibility.

According to the statement, Ambassador Offor demonstrated uncommon courage and patriotism during periods of insecurity in Ohafia when the people entrusted with the responsibility of safeguarding the area tagged it IPOB enclave and allowed it to bleed, Ambassador Offor reportedly committed his personal resources, influence, and strategic networks to work with security agencies in restoring peace at a time when the community faced severe challenges and stigmatization.

ANYA further highlighted Ambassador Offor’s unalloyed loyalty and consistent support for the administration of Governor Alex Otti, describing the governor as a transformational leader whose policies have restored hope and confidence in governance among the people of Abia State.

The group argued that Ambassador Offor’s contributions to development initiatives in Abia State, youth empowerment, and lofty human capital development initiatives that has continued to generate employment and stimulate economic growth, demonstrate the capacity of the private sector to drive public good. The youth body expressed optimism that similar initiatives could be attracted to Abia North if he is given the mandate of the people.

Reiterating its position, ANYA declared that the 2027 elections must represent a clear departure from politics of propaganda, self-glorification, and recycled leadership, insisting that the youth have a critical role to play in ensuring that Abia State does not relapse into ineffective governance.

The group, however, noted that it would allow Ambassador Offor a reasonable period to consult and make a final decision regarding the call, particularly in view of his participation in the 2023 senatorial race. It assured that should he decline, ANYA would continue to engage and mobilize in search of the most credible candidate capable of rescuing Abia North from the grip of the old political order.
