An Appeal for Calm and Expression of Sympathy
The Abia State Government expresses heartfelt sympathy to traders, business owners, and residents affected by the reported incident at the Ekeoha Shopping Centre in Aba. Our thoughts are with all who may have sustained injuries, suffered losses, or experienced distress as a result of this unfortunate event.
Immediately after receiving reports of the incident, the government deployed professional engineers, safety officers, and auditors to the site to ascertain the facts. A comprehensive technical and financial review is ongoing to determine the exact cause, verify compliance with building standards, and hold any responsible parties accountable.
While investigations continue, the public is assured that transparency remains central to this administration’s response. The findings and next steps will be communicated openly once the report is concluded. The government will ensure that corrective measures are taken to protect lives, safeguard public infrastructure, and restore confidence in ongoing development projects.
We understand the public’s concern and urge everyone to remain calm and patient as official investigations progress. Speculation or misinformation at this stage may hinder the integrity of the process. Abia State remains committed to the highest standards of safety, diligence, and accountability.

Once again, we extend our condolences to all who have been affected. Together, we will rebuild stronger, safer, and with an even greater commitment to transparency and excellence in governance.
