IKENNA & JENN UKWA FOUNDATION FOOTBALL COMPETITION : Amaekpu FC Defeats Amangwu FC in Football Final Showdown
The Senior Legislative Aide to the Nigerian Senate, Chief (Dr) Ikenna Nicolas Ukwa has again demonstrated his enduring commitment towards youth development through sports.
Hon Ikenna Nicolas Ukwa proved this by hosting a football competition in Ohafia LGA under the auspices of his foundation, IKENNA & JENN UKWA FOUNDATION, the grand finale of which was held at the Ofali Agwu Primary School Mini Stadium in Amaekpu Ohafia on Sunday 20th April 2025.
Chief Ikenna Nicolas Ukwa in his remarks when he hosted the Abia State Commissioner for Sports & Youth Development, Hon Nwaobilor Ananaba in his country home, Amaekpu Ohafia before the match kick-off stated that football as well as other sporting events are positive avenues for bringing individuals and communities together.
Chief Ukwa while thanking all the teams that participated in the tournament, the officiating teams as well as football enthusiasts for their support emphasized that the aim of the tournament is to promote sports development, unity and community engagement in Ohafia LGA and also provide a platform for young athletes to showcase their skills and encourage local talents to aim for national and international recognition.

In the last 4 weeks, all participating teams have showcased fine skills, teamwork, resilience and talent. I believe that beyond the thrill and fun of the competition, football also breaks down barriers and build stronger relationships among various individuals and communities.“ he added.
The Commissioner for Sports and Youth development in Abia State, Hon Nwaobilor Ananaba who performed the official Kick-Off of the match while speaking expressed profound gratitude to Hon. Ikenna for supporting the development of Ohafia LGA sporting talents by giving them a platform to showcase their gifts.
He expressed the Abia State government’s commitment led by the Sports loving Governor, Dr Alex C. Otti to partner with like minds and develop sporting activities across the State. He said Governor Otti is determined to enhance and support sports in Abia State, hence while the Governor has approved the construction of a FIFA standard stadium in Umuahia, which is currently ongoing including the revitalisation of Nsulu Games village.
Also, Sir Ananaba disclosed that the Abia State government received trophies won by the state’s under-15 male and female handball teams at the recently concluded National Under-12/15 Handball Championship and in partnership with Fifty1 Alliance has officially launched the Alliance Abia State Football Supalig aims to cultivate local talent and provide a pathway for players to earn a livelihood through the sport, among others.
The final match of the tournament was between Amaekpu Football Club and Amangwu Ohafia football club. The keenly contested showdown ended in favour of Amaekpu Ohafia who defeated Amangwu by 1 goal to 0.
The First Prize Winners went home with a trophy and ₦1,000,000 as the prize money. While the first runner up, Amangwu FC got ₦750,000, and the third place team, Amaogudu FC, Abiriba went home with ₦500,000 and Amaeke FC Abiriba received N200,000 cash prize for clinching 4th position.
At the grand finale were the Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Abia State, Hon Nwaobilor Ananaba, Chief Nze Uche Uche Ohafia, Chief Onyema Agbai, Chief Uche Ogboso, Mr Alex Ikeogu Kalu, among numerous other sport enthusiasts.
