Peter Obi was recently at Yale University as a speaker at the Chinua Achebe Leadership in Africa Forum. This prestigious event aims to promote leadership and governance in Africa, aligning with Obi’s expertise and experience. As a respected leader and private sector titan, his participation in such forums facilitates knowledge sharing and networking with global thought leaders.
Peter Obi’s Yale visit was quite the event! He shared valuable insights on effective governance and leadership. On Effective Governance, Obi emphasized the importance of good governance in Africa’s development, highlighting his achievements in Anambra State as examples. What about Leadership by Example, as he’s power house in that regards, he spared no thought nor word in stressing the need for leaders to lead by example, demonstrating integrity, accountability, and transparency in their actions.

In discussing Economic Growth, Obi discussed strategies for promoting economic growth, including investment in education, healthcare, and infrastructure. Participants opined that Africa’s development is a multifaceted issue, and forums like the one, our very indefatigable, celebral, governor and Abia state Chief Executive – Dr Alex Chioma Otti OFR attended at Yale are crucial for discussing solutions. In his contribution, he explained that economic growth, education, and healthcare are key areas of focus. To buttress his point, he cited
Economic Growth: and argued with supporting statistics that Sub-Saharan Africa is projected to grow by 3% in 2024, up from 2.4% in 2023, and accelerate to 4% in 2025-26. However, recovery remains fragile due to global economic uncertainty, growing debt, climate-related disasters, and escalating conflict. Dr Otti was quick to posit that Development Challenges: such as
Education: is crucial. Abia’s dynamic citizen buttressed that investing in human capital is vital, especially with 12 million youth entering the labor market annually. Others brought up Healthcare: and opined that Access to quality healthcare remains a challenge, with a focus on strengthening health systems. Dr Otti quipped that Energy and Infrastructure: remained critical in the scheme of things. He reasoned that addressing energy and transportation bottlenecks is essential for economic growth.
These efforts demonstrate the commitment to Africa’s development, aligning with Peter Obi’s contributions in economic growth, education, and healthcare.
In my humble submission, this conference provided Networking Opportunities: Dr Alex Chioma Otti and Mr Peter Obi’s presence at Yale provided opportunities to connect with international investors, academics, and leaders, potentially fostering collaborations and investments in Nigeria.

Rather than chanting all over social and mainstream media that this conference is an exercise in futility, “wasting funds,” etc. Dr Otti and Mr Obi’s participation in this forum demonstrates their commitment to knowledge sharing, leadership development, and Africa’s growth. As a private sector titans, their involvement in such events can attract investors and promote economic development in Abia State and Nigeria as a whole.
