A Governor and His Mayors: Part Two

In our previous publication, A Governor and his Mayors: Part One we highlighted the exceptional qualities Governor Alex Otti deployed in selecting transitional local government Chairmen, dubbed “Mayors,” to oversee Abia State’s 17 local governments. Their inauguration marked a significant milestone in the state’s history.

The Mayors’ outstanding performance sparked widespread acclaim, with many clamoring for their return in the forthcoming local government elections. However, Governor Otti opted for fresh faces, seeking candidates with public and private sector experience to drive development in the local governments.

Unfortunately, this decision drew criticism from some quarters, attempting to sow discord and mistrust among the Mayors, the Governor and his supporters. Thankfully, the public remained informed and vigilant, recognizing the governor’s commitment to progress.

The labor party’s infighting presented another challenge, but Governor Otti rose above the fray, encouraging qualified candidates to seek office regardless of party affiliation. This bold move demonstrated his dedication to grassroots development.

On November 2, the people spoke, electing 15 Zenith Labor Party Mayors and 2 Young Peoples Parties Mayors . Two days later, the newly elected mayors were sworn in, tasked with delivering development to Abia State’s 17 local governments.

In his swearing-in address, Governor Otti outlined a blueprint for development, emphasizing the importance of collaboration and unity. He urged the Mayors to prioritize the needs of the people, fostering an environment conducive to growth and prosperity.

As Abia State embarks on this new journey, it’s essential to recognize the governor’s vision and leadership. His commitment to transparency, accountability, and progress has inspired hope among the people.
