A MANIFESTO PRESENTED BY UNIQUE KELECHI UKPAI- ASPIRANT FOR THE OFFICE OF NAASS PRESIDENT
I present to you my manifesto aimed at improving the overall student experience and ensuring a better association for all of us.
WHY CHOOSE ME?
I am the best person for the office of the NAASS President because of my passion, experience, and commitment to serving the student community. I have been actively involved in various student organizations, activities, and services. My experience in providing extra support services and training opportunities, as well as asking for feedback and applying it, has taught me the importance of listening to and understanding students’ concerns. As the NAASS President, I believe that every student should have access to high-quality education, regardless of their background of which I am committed to promoting diversity, equity, innovation, and inclusion on our association and campuses, ensuring that every student feels valued, supported, and included in all aspects of university life through the involvement and engagement of students.
PRIORITIES AND GOALS
- BUILDING COMMUNITY: I will work to create a database of student profiles to build a network of collaborative opportunities across the university, connecting students and staff and hosting an online, easy to access, central location for all student led event information, from sporting activities, exhibitions and performances and to academic online hub to help students understand the university lifestyles and the dividends which ranges from access to scholarships and other student oriented opportunities.
- EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION: I will ensure that there are more opportunities for student involvement in decision-making processes, ensuring that student voices are heard and acted upon. This aspect of communication will involve Regular town halls meetings, social media updates, and open-door policy.
- EQUITY AND INCLUSION: Overtime, our students in our various campuses does not experience the presence of NAASS as a functional body due to lack of awareness and initiatives to foster a more inclusive campus environment that respects all cultures, backgrounds, and identities. This is what I have mapped out plans and strategies to do if I am elected into the office. Equal and fair opportunities for all students is extremely important!
- IMPROVED SOCIAL/RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES: I will promote social activities across our campus associations promoting a regular space and time for events such as performances (both musical and theatrical), exhibitions for you to showcase your talents and sporting activities which includes football competitions etc. This will help us to be exposed to trendy innovations and technological advancement as the activities will cut through the gamut of arts, creativity and cultural inclinations.
- IMPROVED ACADEMIC STRATEGIES/AWARENESS: As part of my commitment to improving the academic scope of our students. My administration will prioritize the creating an awareness on how students can work towards getting good result through tutorials and different online/offline engagements. This will enable them to track their performances through follow-up studies, monitoring the attendance and the test/exam results in other to avoid missing scripts and awaiting results.
- ALIGNING WITH THE GOVERNOR’S VISION FOR THE YOUTH: My commitment is to align our efforts with the vision of His Excellency, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, whose aspiration to build a great Abia resonates deeply with my heart. NAASS will not only replicate these ideals but become a beacon of best practices—a model of progress, resilience, and unity. We will adopt policies that reflect our shared commitment to integrity, service, and community development towards the students and association.
Let me conclude by saying that according to Harvey Firestone ‘the growth and development of people is the highest calling of leadership’. Your student growth and development depends on your Education and Welfare. I am determined to ensure your growth and development as a student by ensuring that issues relating to your academic interests and welfare are dealt with timeously, efficiently, and effectively. Let’s help empower our students and enhance excellence.
