Food insecurity is a pressing issue that affects millions of people around the world, including in Nigeria.
In an effort to address this challenge and prioritize agriculture, the deputy speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt Hon Benjamin Okezie Kalu, recently inaugurated the National Legislative Network on Nutrition and Food Security in Abuja.
This committee has been tasked with the responsibility of initiating strategic legislative processes and actions to tackle food and nutritional challenges in the country.
During the inauguration ceremony, Rt Hon Benjamin Okezie Kalu emphasized the commitment of the House to policies and legislative frameworks aimed at enhancing agricultural productivity.
He highlighted the importance of agriculture in addressing food insecurity and promoting sustainable development in Nigeria.
The deputy speaker’s remarks underscored the critical role that agriculture plays in growing the nation’s economy, reducing poverty rates, and addressing nutritional crises.
In addition to inaugurating the National Legislative Network on Nutrition and Food Security, Rt Hon Benjamin Okezie Kalu also attended the Second Interactive Session and Workshop on Developing Bankable Business Proposals for Youths and Women in Agriculture organized by the African Development Bank.
This event marked the bank’s 60th anniversary and provided a platform for discussing ways to support youth and women in the agricultural sector.
As a key figure in the Nigerian legislature, Rt Hon Benjamin Okezie Kalu’s actions demonstrate a strong commitment to addressing food insecurity and promoting agricultural development in the country.
