Unknown Gunmen: Alex Otti is Right.
Yesterday, Aba and its environs experienced the deadly attack of unknown gunmen who gunned down several soldiers at army checkpoints, especially in Obikabia Junction.
Ordinarily, state governments will violently respond to this inferno without a careful study of events, but Dr. Alex Otti in a swift response sued for peace while insisting not to go after those who are mourning the deaths of their lost ones. He rather would advise they find better means to express themselves than to take lives.
The burden of these disturbances heavies on the shoulders of the federal government. They have the responsibility of creating a level playing ground to discuss with all warring groups in Nigeria and arrive at a bargain.
At the same time, the federal government should expedite action toward implementing the state police widely advocated for by Nigerians. A governor of a state who is considered a chief security officer in his state should not be hand-tied to take orders from Abuja before carrying out security effects in his state.
Alex Otti should remain un-distracted by the sad event of yesterday but continue to take critical study of Abians’ support and opposition to his administration so he can serve them better.
