A frontline House of Representatives aspirant for Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency, Ibe Okwara Osonwa has called for meaningful dialogue between the federal government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to resolve the lingering crisis in the Nigerian University system.

Osonwa stated this on Wednesday morning at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja, noting that the current strike by ASUU was affecting the youth population negatively.

Osonwa, while describing himself as a youth said, “This will forestall Idle students from being easily recruited by terrorists, kidnappers, bandits, cultists and other criminal gangs.”

Osonwa also advised government to address the spate of unemployment among youth, insisting that unemployment remained a threat to peace in the country.

On his decision to represent Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency, he said, “The best way to tackle some of the displeasure we feel as a people is to transform these feelings into actions that matter enough, most especially when the capacity and the passion to serve are not in doubt. Consequently, this need to get involved.

“My relentless passion for improving the plight of our community is the reason I am officially declaring my intention to run for the federal office representing Arochukwu/Ohafia federal constituency.

“My involvement in this field is not in doubt, and my involvement is to ensure that things actually get done in order for our people to benefit from the dividends of this democracy that our fathers and mothers fought for.

“I am coming from a background where timelines are key; deliverables are important and, those things that will bring to bear in this drive.

“As we all know, politics is one of the biggest race in which people come together to drive change in their community. Let us as a community come out to drive this change. We cannot stay silent and expect things to remain the same. We need to work towards that change that we desire,” he said.
