Columns/Opinions/Letters, News Flash, Politics
ADC Only Opposition Party In Nigeria; PDP, LP Only Exist On Paper — Kenneth Okonkwo A lawyer and member of the coalition, Kenneth Okonkwo, on Friday said that the African Democratic Congress has established itself as the opposition voice in the country. Okonkwo said that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party (LP) only exist on paper as their leaders either support the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) or the ADC, the political party adopted by the opposition coalition. “Strictly speaking, there is no longer any party like the PDP or LP. They are just existing on paper…

The Old “Omenuko Bridge” – A True Reflection Of Abia’s Dark Era – By Eagle Okoro

The Old “Omenuko Bridge” – A True Reflection Of Abia’s Dark Era – By Eagle Okoro

Abia State, Columns/Opinions/Letters, Good Governance, Infrastructure
The old "Omenuko Bridge" - a true reflection of Abia's dark era By Eagle Okoro The ramshackle, one-lane Igwu River Bridge, nicknamed "Omenuko Bridge", at Ozu Abam in Arochukwu Local Government Area of Abia, God's Own State, built by the colonial administration more than 70 years ago, has finally, finally become history. While it lasted, the bridge provided motorists the only means of crossing the Igwu River, where Omenuko - whose real name was Chief Igwegbe Odum, a prominent merchant from Arondizuogu in today's Imo State - suffered a tragic loss of his goods, hence the bridge was named after…

Governor Otti’s Transformation Agenda Resonates at NNAUSA Convention in America By Ebere Uzoukwa, PhD At the Ngwa National Association USA (NNAUSA) Convention in St. Louis, Missouri, Governor Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, represented by his Chief of Staff, Pastor Caleb Ajagba, PhD, delivered a compelling account of the transformational journey currently unfolding in Abia State. His message of progress, renewal, and hope did not merely inform; it struck a deep chord with the diaspora community, many of whom have long yearned to see their home state reclaimed from years of neglect and repositioned as a beacon of good governance and sustainable…

A Beautiful Mind: Understanding The Equations Of Order And Chaos – By Dr. Chukwuemeka Ifegwu Eke

Abia State, Columns/Opinions/Letters, Economy, Good Governance
A Beautiful Mind: Understanding the Equations of Order and Chaos What is genius but the ability to impose order on chaos? To look upon the swirling, unpredictable storm of human interaction, economic forces, or abstract mathematics and discern a hidden pattern, a rule, a stable state. This rare faculty lives in the minds of both the pure theorist and the practical leader. In the quiet, haunted corridors of John Nash's mathematical imagination and the bustling, demanding arena of Dr. Alex Otti's executive office, we find two vastly different men engaged in the same fundamental pursuit: solving the world's most complex…

Between Otti’s Performance And The Ukwa Tsunami – By Ebere Uzoukwa, Ph.D (SSA To Governor Otti On Public Affairs)

Abia State, Columns/Opinions/Letters, Politics
Between Otti’s Performance and the Ukwa Tsunami By Ebere Uzoukwa, PhD The recent defection of several political heavyweights and their supporters in Ukwa West to the Labour Party has been described as a political tsunami. It represents more than a mere movement of politicians across party lines. It is a statement of trust, a verdict on performance, and a clear endorsement of Governor Alex Chioma Otti, who is steadily rewriting the story of Abia and transforming the fortunes of Ukwa, the oil rich but long neglected axis of the state. For decades, Ukwa was abandoned by successive administrations that only…

Muslims Working On Fridays Is Unfair While Sunday Is Work-Free – Reno Omokri

Muslims Working On Fridays Is Unfair While Sunday Is Work-Free – Reno Omokri

Columns/Opinions/Letters, News Flash, Religion
Muslims Working On Fridays Is Unfair While Sunday Is Work-free – Reno Omokri Former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, has called for a review of Nigeria’s work schedule to accommodate Muslim worship on Fridays, describing the current arrangement as unfair to the Muslim community. In a video shared on his verified Facebook page on Friday, Omokri argued that before colonial rule, Fridays were traditionally recognised as a day of rest for Muslims. He noted that while Sunday remains a non-working day for Christians, Muslims are required to work on Fridays, despite its significance for their religious obligations. He suggested that a…

Sahara Reporters' Questionable Neutrality: Contrasting Media Agenda Against Abia State's Transparency Triumphs 1 Introduction: The Paradox of Investigative Journalism in Nigeria In Nigeria's tumultuous media landscape, where investigative journalism often walks a tightrope between accountability activism and political weaponization, few organizations have generated as much controversy as Sahara Reporters. While positioning itself as an anti-corruption watchdog, this outlet has increasingly faced accusations of selective targeting and political bias. Meanwhile, in southeastern Nigeria, Abia State under Governor Alex Otti has been quietly engineering one of Nigeria's most remarkable transformation stories, implementing unprecedented transparency measures that have earned international recognition but curiously…

Governor Otti And His Many Children – By Ebere Uzoukwa, Ph.D (SSA To Governor Otti On Public Affairs)

Abia State, Columns/Opinions/Letters, Good Governance, Youths
Governor Otti and His Many Children By Ebere Uzoukwa, PhD When Dr Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, addressed the graduating participants of the second cohort of the Abia Leadership Academy on August 27, 2025, he spoke less like a governor delivering a policy statement and more like a father addressing his children. His words carried warmth, hope, and responsibility. In his adoption of Abia’s young people through the Academy, Otti demonstrated that his vision of governance goes beyond roads, bridges, and infrastructure. It includes deliberately shaping a new generation of leaders who will sustain the gains of today and drive the…

Japan Of Africa Or A State On The Brink? The Two Abias Revealed At 34 – By Dr. Chukwuemeka Ifegwu Eke

Abia State, Columns/Opinions/Letters, Good Governance
Japan of Africa or a State on the Brink? The Two Abias Revealed at 34 Introduction: A Tale of Two States As Abia State marks its 34th anniversary under the focused leadership of Governor Alex Otti, a stark duality defines its existence. This is a tale of two states in one: the first, a celebrated hub of ingenuity and commerce, proudly nicknamed the "Japan of Africa" that Otti's administration is working tirelessly to promote. The second, a state grappling with inherited existential threats, where the grim discovery of 34 skeletal remains in a forest overshadows birthday celebrations but has met…

Otti’s ABIA: A State Once Mocked, Now A Model At 34 – By Ebere Uzoukwa, Ph.D (SSA To Governor Otti On Public Affairs)

Abia State, Columns/Opinions/Letters, Good Governance
Otti’s Abia: A State Once Mocked, Now a Model at 34 By Ebere Uzoukwa PhD At 34, Abia State is rewriting its story. For years, the state was mocked across Nigeria as a tragic example of wasted opportunities. Despite its rich endowment in human capital and natural resources, Abia became synonymous with collapsed infrastructure, abandoned workers, dirty cities, and failed governance. The proud title of “God’s Own State” was reduced to a bitter joke. Successive administrations failed to provide vision or leadership. Teachers and pensioners were left in misery, hospitals crumbled, schools collapsed, and the once vibrant entrepreneurial spirit of…
