The Ripple Effect of Empowerment: How One Abia Farmer is Multiplying Governor Otti’s Investment
In the heart of Abia State, a powerful story of agricultural transformation is unfolding—one that moves beyond temporary aid to sustainable empowerment. This story exemplifies a new strategic approach by the Abia State Government under Governor Alex Otti, OFR, demonstrating how targeted investment in human capacity can create a ripple effect of prosperity throughout communities.
The catalyst for this change is the innovative CSS (Called Servants to Serve) agricultural initiative. Since 2017, I have served as a consultant to the organization behind CSS, which operates a network of integrated farms spanning over 5,000 acres across different locations in Nigeria. The program’s core mission is to create “servant-leaders” in agriculture: individuals equipped with superior training, practical experience, and a mandate to uplift others.
From Seed to Success: The Basil Emenike Story
Mr. Basil Emenike, a CSS-trained farmer sponsored by the Abia State Government, stands as a living testament to this model’s efficacy. The support from the Otti administration proved to be the critical catalyst he needed. It enabled him to significantly expand his established rice farming business and provided the confidence and resources to diversify into large-scale cultivation of high-value crops like watermelon, cucumber, and potatoes—ventures he had never before attempted.

This successful diversification marks a crucial evolution from subsistence farming to commercial agribusiness, increasing profitability and food security simultaneously.
The Ripple Effect: Training the Next Generation
The most profound impact of this investment is not just visible in Mr. Emenike’s flourishing fields, but in the surrounding community. Embracing the “servant” ethos of his training, he has become a vital knowledge hub. He now actively trains and raises other aspiring farmers, diligently sharing the advanced techniques and modern practices he acquired at the CSS farms in Nasarawa State.
This commitment to paying it forward ensures that the benefits of the government’s empowerment programme do not stop with individual recipients but are effectively multiplied, spreading wealth and knowledge to the grassroots level.
A Blueprint for Transformative Governance
Mr. Basil Emenike’s journey is far more than a personal success story; it is a practical demonstration of how public funds are being strategically utilized to better the lives of citizens in the new Abia. Under Governor Alex Otti’s he leadership, empowerment is being redefined. It is no longer about short-term gestures but about building go long-term capacity and creating entrepreneurs who become engines for community development.
This model—investing in people, not just projects—ensures that a single investment generates endless returns, fostering a legacy of sustainable economic growth, food sovereignty, and collective prosperity for all of Abia State.
