Reps Donate N705 Million To FG For Vulnerable Nigerians During Ramadan

The House of Representatives, on Monday, donated N705m to the Federal Government to support vulnerable Nigerians during the month of Ramadan.

The Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas, announced this when President Bola Tinubu hosted principal officers of the green chamber to an Iftar dinner at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Tajudeen presented the donation on behalf of the lawmakers, saying they are committed to alleviating the economic hardship of the most vulnerable Nigerians.

This is not the first that the House of Reps of the 10th assembly will be donating to Nigerians amid economy hardship in the country.

The House of Representatives on December 31, 2024, present the sum of N704.91m to President Bola Tinubu for the use of vulnerable Nigerians owing to the economic hardship occasioned by the removal of the petrol subsidy.

Recall that on July 18, the House resolved to slash 50 per cent of their salaries for six months to address the challenges faced by ordinary Nigerians following the adoption of a motion moved during a plenary session.

Following a motion by Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, the House, in July, resolved to donate half of their salaries to meet the hunger needs of Nigerians as part of efforts to stop the end bad governance protest.

While moving the motion, Kalu said, “This government is doing its best, but one year is not enough to address the challenges of this country. I want to plead with our colleagues to sacrifice 50 per cent for a period of six months.
