Police Officers Enlisted Before 2004 Given Deadline To Submit Pension Information

All Nigerian police officers enlisted before the establishment of Pension Fund Administrators (PFA) on June 30, 2004, including inspectors and rank-and-file personnel, have been ordered to submit their pension details.

AttNews News gathered that affected officers must provide their information to the administrative office of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command Headquarters in Abuja by Monday, February 24, 2025. This directive was communicated through an urgent police wireless message exclusively obtained by SaharaReporters on Sunday.

The officers are required to submit their serial number, name, gender, date of retirement, pension PIN, PFA name, salary structure as of June 30, 2004, and their grade level and step as of 2004.

A police memo emphasized the urgency of the submission and warned officers to ensure the accuracy of their information, stating that failure to comply could result in personal consequences.

This development comes as President Bola Tinubu recently acknowledged the inadequacy of police salaries and pledged to address the challenges within the pension system.

At a recent interactive session with retired police officers and Nigeria Police Pensions stakeholders at the Police Resource Centre in Jabi, Abuja, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, disclosed that a new proposal has been submitted to the president to improve the police pension scheme.

According to Egbetokun, Tinubu agreed that retired police officers deserve better compensation, and the force has requested an annual government intervention fund to enhance their welfare.

Meanwhile, human rights activist Omoyele Sowore recently reaffirmed his commitment to supporting police officers facing pension issues. During a protest at the Federal High Court in Abuja, Sowore declared that he would not be silenced by threats and expressed his readiness to organize a nationwide demonstration for police officers’ rights.

He emphasized that Nigerian police officers deserve proper housing, quality education for their children, and salaries that reflect their essential role in society.

The police authorities continue to investigate the pension issue, while affected officers have been urged to comply with the submission directive before the deadline.
