Senate Moves To Probe K1, Female Passenger’s Face-off With Airlines

The Senate has waded into two recent high-profile incidents involving airline passengers, vowing to investigate and hold all parties accountable.

Chairman of the Senate Committee on Aviation, Senator Abdulfatai Buhari (APC, Oyo North), said on Tuesday that the probe would cover operational standards, passenger rights, and discipline in Nigeria’s aviation sector.

“We will not allow procedural gaps or lapses in enforcement to undermine safety, professionalism, or public trust in our aviation system,” he said.

The committee will meet with regulators, airline operators, security agencies, and public interest groups to review existing procedures and recommend corrective measures.

One of the incidents under the spotlight is the clash between Fuji legend King Wasiu Ayinde Marshall (KWAM 1) and ValueJet staff at Abuja’s Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.

K1 allegedly tried to board a Lagos-bound flight with alcohol and refused to follow security checks. The situation escalated into a confrontation with airline staff and the flight captain before aviation security escorted him off the plane.

The Senate will also probe the case of Comfort Emmanson, who was banned for life by Ibom Air after she allegedly assaulted crew members on the Uyo–Lagos route at Lagos airport.

Ibom Air said the passenger was taken into custody by FAAN security and handed over to the police.

Senator Buhari assured Nigerians that the Senate’s oversight will produce enforceable solutions to prevent such incidents in the future.
