Sowore Joins Retired Police Officers’ Protest In Abuja
Former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, on Monday led a protest by retired police officers in Abuja, demanding better welfare for ex-personnel of the Nigeria Police Force.
The demonstrators, under the aegis of the Nigerian Union of Retired Police Officers, stormed the National Assembly complex before heading to the Force Headquarters, insisting on their removal from the contributory pension scheme.
They described the scheme as “discriminatory” and claimed that many of their members had died as a result of poor benefits.

Meanwhile, the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) has warned against the protest, urging the aggrieved retirees to embrace dialogue instead.
According to PCRC, the demonstration was aimed at discrediting the Inspector-General of Police and the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
