GODA HOSTS NIGERIAN INSTITUTE OF TOWN PLANNERS, DISCUSSES VISION FOR A MODEL ABIA NORTH

The Greater Ohafia Development Authority (GODA) on Tuesday played host to a high-powered delegation from the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners (NITP), Abia State Chapter, in a strategic meeting aimed at advancing the vision of transforming Abia North into a model region.

The visit, which signaled a strong synergy between GODA and the Town Planning Institute, provided an opportunity for professional engagement toward building a more organized and sustainable Abia North

While speaking, the Chairman, Abia state Chapter of NITP, TPl. Ignatius A. Anyanwu, commended the Director General of GODA, Engr. Obinna Odum, for his remarkable achievements within a short period in office. He praised the visionary leadership of Governor Dr. Alex Otti for establishing GODA and appointing a capable technocrat to steer its affairs.

TPl. Anyanwu also used the opportunity to appeal to the state government to prioritize the welfare of town planners and to create more opportunities for their absorption into the civil service.

Responding to the concerns, TPl. Ahuruonye Okezie C., Head of the Town Planning Unit in GODA disclosed the government’s commitment to strengthening the town planning workforce and ensuring their contributions are fully integrated into the development framework.

In his remarks, the Director General of GODA, Engr. Obinna Odum, expressed appreciation to the NITP team for the fruitful engagement. He affirmed GODA’s readiness to maintain a collaborative relationship with the institute, stating that their expertise would be instrumental in the ongoing effort to redesign and modernize the region’s urban landscape.

He assured that all issues raised during the meeting had been noted and would be addressed in line with the state’s development priorities.

The delegation included prominent members such as TPl. Elvis Chukwudi (Chapter Secretary), TPl. Eld. N.C. Nwaosu, TPl. Ukwen Okorie, among others.
