AN URGENT NEED FOR A SECURITY SUMMIT IN ABIA STATE.

Being a press release by Abia North Consultative Assembly on the 22nd of May, 2025.

As the formation of security vanguards across many states of the federation takes the center stage, our state, Abia must key into the mantra of events to avoid being caught off guard in an increasingly unstoppable insurgency thraldom of decay and orchestrated vulnerability.

Just yesterday, 20th of May, Imo State held what may be described as an enhanced and all inclusive security summit to put Imo citizens on red alert concerning the security situation in the country today.

There’s no gainsaying that this meeting was a sort of resetting of their collective psyche in readiness to confront the unknown that every concerned and patriotic citizen of this country believes would be an imminent danger lurking on everyone’s doorstep. There is this palpable but strange feeling of invasion by elements believed to be of fulani descent both foreign and local preparing to unleash mayhem and hell on the innocent Indigenous population with the government appearing helpless and unable to protect the citizens.

Every community around the country are mobilizing local vigilantes and neighborhood militias to protect themselves as earlier posited by the Director General of DSS in a recent lecture and also very eminently addumbrated by General T.Y Danjuma in another recent public outing.

Abia North and indeed Abia State must put on her own emergency protective gear to prepare to confront the demon like other states and communities are doing around the country.

This is a timely clarion call by ANCA movement on Abia State government to at least adopt the Imo state template to engage the youths, women, PGs, community leaders and traditional leaders to form community based all inclusive civil guards or vigilantes to be the vanguard of protecting the communities against stranger elements or assaults on farmlands, neighborhoods, forests etcetera.

This is the time for Abia state government to make security to be every man’s business in the entire state. Dr. Alex Otti must assume his constitutional duties as the chief security officer of the state by mounting the driving wheel of securing the citizens of God’s own state.

Abia state government should empower the Ministry of Homeland Security to coordinate the local vigilantes and security services at our frontlines and flashpoints or beef up the office of the Security Adviser to cover these functions.

Abia North Consultative Assembly during its Easter retreat was emphatic about the serious security threats along our northern borders of Arochukwu, Ohafia, Bende, Isiukwuato, and Umunneochi LGAs. Our founding communique was equally emphatic about the formation of community based vigilantes units to compliment government official security networks.

Now that this model is being adopted by many states in Nigeria, let us hope that our efforts to form the ANCA movement with security of our homeland as our main focus is not in vain afterall.
ANCAAAAAA, our voice, our strength, and our future.
Dr. Engr Odo Ijere
President.
Reverend Dr O.C Obioha JP
Secretary.
