Grassroots Mobilization Begins: IEGDU Rallies Support for Gov. Alex Otti’s Re-election Bid.
Solidarity songs echoed through the Itaja-Obohia Federated Union Civic Hall in Umuahia South Local Government Area as the Igbo Ekene Global Development Union (IEGDU) declared its full backing for the re-election of Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, in 2027.
Addressing a gathering of IEGDU critical stakeholders, community leaders, political stakeholders, and grassroots mobilizers, Ambassador Moses Onyegbule, President General of IEGDU and General Coordinator of IEGDU for Grassroots Frontiers for Dr. Alex Otti, reaffirmed the group’s commitment to promoting good governance and sustaining the current administration’s developmental strides.
“IEGDU has been mandated to mobilize and sensitize voters across all 17 LGAs in Abia State,” Onyegbule announced. The socio-cultural organization, which has operated for over 18 years within Nigeria and in the diaspora, boasts of over 20 notable patrons including Chief Uduma Nnate, a member of the Abia State Petroleum Taskforce and founder of the Grassroots Frontiers for Dr. Alex Otti.

According to Onyegbule, the mission is clear: rally grassroots support and deliver a decisive mandate for Governor Otti (who they christened ‘onapuru agu ihe okpu n’onu 1) in the 2027 governorship election. “We are not doing this for money,” he emphasized. “Not a kobo has exchanged hands. This is purely out of love for the Governor’s transformative leadership and the vision shared by Chief Uduma Nnate.”
He assured members that roles within the Frontiers would be fairly distributed to foster inclusivity and prevent internal divisions. “Everyone must feel a sense of belonging. No one will be left behind,” he added, also revealing plans to create a WhatsApp group for coordination and information sharing.
He announced that he has started his mobilization efforts from his own unit and ward—Ahiaukwu Olokoro Ward 1 and expressed confidence that by May 29, 2025, IEGDU members would have completed a statewide sensitization drive in support of Otti’s re-election campaign.
Other key figures present at the event echoed similar sentiments. Among them were Chief Mrs. Chidinma Agunaegbe, IEGDU National Woman Leader; Mrs. Nnenna Emele, Woman Leader for Abia North; Mr. Nicholas Chukwunenye Okeke, Southeast and South-South Youth Leader; and Mrs. Kelechi Chukwunenye Okeke, Aba North Woman Leader. They all praised Governor Otti’s leadership and expressed unflinching support for both Onyegbule and Chief Nnate.
Also in attendance were Mr. Maduabuchi Dickson (IEGDU National Provost), Mr. Eze Chinago (Ward Coordinator), Mrs. Ocheze Nwachukwu (Ward 1 Woman Leader), Rev. Onyemachi Obinna (Ward Secretary), Mr. Samuel Agbugba (Umuahia South Organizing Secretary), Mrs. Ngozi Onyeike (President General, Umutowe Women’s Wing), Lady Blessing Nwachukwu (National Finance Officer), Mrs. Ebere Orji (Ikwuano Woman Leader), and Ngozi Irechukwu (National Secretary), among others.

The highlight of the meeting was renewed calls for increased membership recruitment, outreach programmes, and a scheduled solidarity visit to Dr. Uduma Nnate to further energize the movement ahead of the 2027 polls.
