GODA STRENGTHENS TIES WITH NKPORO COMMUNITY, BEGINS ENGAGEMENTS FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

The Greater Ohafia Development Authority (GODA), led by its Director General, Engr. Obinna Odum, alongside top management officials, engaged with the Nkporo community in Ohafia Local Government Area yesterday to foster collaboration for sustainable development.

The strategic meeting, held at the palace of His Royal Highness Eze Eqwugwo of Amudu Autonomous Community, Etitiama Nkporo, focused on strengthening partnerships between community stakeholders and GODA to enhance government presence and drive developmental initiatives in the area.

Speaking during the engagement, Engr. Obinna Odum introduced GODA as an authority established by law under the administration of His Excellency Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, the Executive Governor of Abia State, to ensure the holistic development of the Abia North region. He emphasized the critical role of community cooperation in achieving a sustainable progress.

Odum highlighted several ongoing and planned government projects in the region, including road rehabilitation and agricultural interventions. He urged the people of Nkporo to work in synergy with GODA to facilitate the smooth implementation of these initiatives.

A traditional ruler, Chief Innocent Ude, commended GODA’s visit, describing it as a much-needed reassurance of the government’s commitment to the community’s welfare. He praised Governor Otti for his dedication to equitable development across Abia State and lauded the foresight behind establishing GODA. According to him, the ongoing initiatives reflect the governor’s resolve to improve the quality of life for Ndi Abia.

Chief Ude further acknowledged the fulfillment of Governor Otti’s campaign promises through statewide development efforts. While pledging the community’s full cooperation with GODA, he also drew attention to an abandoned palm oil production plant in the area, calling for government intervention to revive the facility.

Similarly, Eze Eme lamented the persistent lack of pipe-borne water in Nkporo, noting that the community has struggled for years to establish a functional borehole despite collective and individual efforts. He assured the government of Nkporo’s commitment to safeguarding public assets and supporting the new partnership.

During the interactive session, traditional council members and community leaders voiced concerns over several pressing challenges, particularly the deplorable condition of “Oroni”Road, which connects Nkporo to Ebonyi State. They appealed for urgent government intervention to rehabilitate the road and ease transportation difficulties.

In response, TPl. Ahuruonye Okezie C. assured the community of the government’s commitment to addressing their demands. He reiterated the importance of maintaining a strong and cordial relationship with the administration to ensure continuous development and effective policy implementation.

The meeting concluded with a renewed sense of partnership, as GODA reaffirmed its dedication to driving sustainable development in Nkporo and across Abia North.
