Ozigbo Speculates on Peter Obi’s Future Beyond Labour Party

Valentine Ozigbo, a former CEO of Transnational Corporation of Nigeria, has expressed doubts that Peter Obi will contest the 2027 presidential election under the Labour Party (LP), the platform he used in 2023.

Ozigbo, who recently left the LP to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), cited his “unwavering commitment” to the broader vision for Anambra State as his reason for the switch. Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday, he revealed that his time in the LP exposed him to coalition discussions that led him to believe Obi would soon part ways with the party.

“I don’t see a future for the Labour Party. I’m happy to live with that assertion, and I would like to be proven wrong,” Ozigbo remarked. He further noted Obi’s history of switching political affiliations, having moved from ANPP to APGA, then to PDP, and finally to the Labour Party. “If he wishes to run for election, it’s not going to be under Labour Party. I can almost guarantee that,” he added.

While clarifying that he does not speak for Obi, Ozigbo emphasized that his optimism stems from witnessing various coalition discussions, which have shaped his perspective on the matter.
