GOV OTTI ASSURES NIGERIAN GEOLOGICAL SURVEY AGENCY OF SYNERGY TO IMPROVE ABIA’S LOCAL INDUSTRY
The Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, earlier today, received the Director, Nigerian Geological Survey Agency, Mr. Isaac Mba Okorie and his team, who paid a courtesy call on him. The team is on an official assignment to the State to explore the mineral resources of the state with a special concentration on kaoline.
Represented by the Deputy Governor, Engr. Ikechukwu Lekwachi Emetu, FNSE, Otti noted that the profiling of kaolin in different areas of the state will contribute to the economic development of the state through job creation, improved internally generated revenue, and advanced local industry.
Governor Otti commended the Federal Government and the team in their effort to identify the mineral deposits in the state and stressed the need to settle all inter-state boundary disputes in the country.
The Governor promised to partner with the Nigerian Geological Survey Agency and other International investors that are concerned with the socio-eco development of the State. He charged the geologists on the need to be thorough in their exercise, noting that Abia is abundantly blessed with numerous solid mineral resources for industrial applications.
Earlier in his address, the Director of the Nigerian Geological Survey Agency, Mr. Isaac Mba Okorie, noted that the Agency is a Parastatal of the Federal Government under the Ministry of Mines and Steel Development, which aims at studying the earth and bringing out all the resources available for the good of the country (Nigeria) and humanity, with particular reference to kaolin and it’s industrial potential in Abia State, thus, resulting to job creation, revenue generation for government and other economic benefits to Abia populace.
Contributing, the Deputy Chief of Staff to the Deputy Governor, Bar. Chijioke Nwankwo, appealed to the team to expand their horizon in the geoscience analysis which they are here for, and to have our youths engaged, and the State IGR improved to enable Abia State to soar higher
The Honourable Commissioner for Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Prof. Joel Ogbonna and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security, Cmdr. Mac Donald Uba (Rtd) were present at the meeting.
