Re: Is Abia State Cursed?

Assessing Abia State Governor Alex Otti’s administration requires a nuanced analysis of the economic, political, and statistical context.

Firstly, it’s essential to acknowledge that the comparison between Rivers State and Abia State’s road projects is not entirely fair. The 19.7km Buguma-Abalama-Tema-Degema-Abonnema Road in Rivers State is a trunk A road, which typically requires more significant investment due to its higher traffic volume and strategic importance. In contrast, the 5.9km township road in Aba, Abia State, is a trunk B road, which might have different design specifications and costs.

Regarding the contract costs, it’s crucial to consider the economic context. Abia State’s contract with Julius Berger for the 5.9km road might seem expensive, but it’s essential to factor in the costs associated with reconstructing an existing road, which can be more challenging than building a new one. Additionally, the contract might include other components, such as drainage systems or environmental impact assessments, that are not immediately apparent.

Politically, Governor Otti’s administration has made significant strides in improving Abia State’s infrastructure. The government has completed three new road projects in Aba, including the Cemetery Road Phase 2, Umule Road, and Umuocham Road, which are slated for commissioning soon. These projects demonstrate the administration’s commitment to developing the state’s infrastructure.

Statistically, it’s worth noting that Abia State has made progress in various sectors under Governor Otti’s leadership. The state has been declared free from diphtheria, Mpox, and Cholera by the Centre for Disease Control. Additionally, the government has established programs to enhance digital transformation, such as the State-Level Inclusive Digital Transformation Programme, which has been funded through the UK’s Digital Access Programme (DAP).

While the contract costs for the 5.9km road in Aba might seem high, it’s essential to consider the economic, political, and statistical context. Governor Otti’s administration has made significant progress in developing Abia State’s infrastructure, improving healthcare, and enhancing digital transformation.

Criticism can be constructive and respectful, even when disagreeing with someone’s actions or policies. Using derogatory language and personal attacks only serves to undermine the credibility of the critic and distract from the issue at hand.

It’s essential to maintain a civil tone, even in the face of strong disagreement. This allows for a more productive exchange of ideas and fosters a culture of respect and open-mindedness.

Critics of Governor Otti’s administration would do well to focus on the issues rather than resorting to personal attacks and inflammatory language. By doing so, they can help create a more constructive and respectful dialogue that benefits everyone involved.
