This initiative, the police chief stated, is intended to ensure a peaceful and incident-free protest.

Addressing journalists in Abuja on Friday, Egbetokun acknowledged the constitutional right of Nigerian citizens to peaceful assembly and protest.

However, he emphasized the need for prior notification to guarantee public safety and order.

Egbetokun said, “To facilitate a successful and incident-free protest, organizers should kindly provide the following information: the proposed protest routes and assembly points; the expected duration of the protest; and the names and contact details of protest leaders and organizers.”

By providing this information, the police can deploy adequate personnel and resources to ensure public safety and prevent conflicts with other events or activities.

The police chief further stated, “Establish clear communication channels with protest leaders to address any concerns or issues that may arise; minimize the risk of violence, property damage, or other criminal activity.

“We encourage all protesters to cooperate with the police, abide by the law, and adhere to global best practices for peaceful assembly to ensure a safe and successful exercise of their rights.”
