GOVERNOR OTTI COMMISSIONS OBEHE-OKE-IKPE ROAD, HAILS NDDC
*Flags-off Emergency Re-construction of Oke-Ikpe to Akwete Ohambele Road, Phase II.
Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, today commissioned the 9km Ohehie-Oke-Ikpe Road in Ukwa West Local Government Area of the State, constructed by Peoples Concept Nigeria Limited.
The Governor, represented by his Deputy, Engr. Ikechukwu Lekwachi Emetu, FNSE, commended the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) for reconstructing the road which will remarkably enhance the socio-economic growth of the Ukwa West Local Government Area. He assured the Commission of Abia State Government’s readiness to always have a handshake with them to ensure that all uncompleted roads are given due attention they deserve.
“Abia State Government has keyed into the Federal Government’s renewed hope agenda and that is why we are giving back to the people the dividends of democracy. We have reconstructed 79 roads and built 10 new roads so far in the State. These roads are handled by prominent local and international contractors of repute.
He called on the youths to shun vandalization of public properties and desist from acts capable of causing security threats as anyone caught will face the full weight of the law. “We are working round the clock to see that security is improved and jobs created for the unemployed. With our massive infrastructural development, investors are now keen to invest in Abia, the Governor asserted.
In his speech, the Managing Director/CEO, of NDDC, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku said that the Commission is committed to completing viable NDDC projects across the nine mandate states of the region.
He stated that the current administration has been intentional in addressing the needs of the people of the Niger Delta which includes; building partnerships for sustainable development; improved youth capacity and skill base; efficient and cost-effective delivery of projects; working with security agencies and institutions to facilitate improved peace and security in the Niger Delta region among others. He called on the community to always secure all government facilities in their domain.
Earlier In his speech, the Abia State Representative, NDDC Governing Board, Chief Eruba Dimgba thanked Governor Otti for his support and commitment to the development of the state which has been instrumental in achieving milestones such as this road project.
“The construction of this 9-kilometer road is a testament to the commitment of the NDDC and the Abia State Government to the development of our region. It serves as a vital link, connecting Obehie Junction to Oke-Ikpe Ukwa West Local Government Area: linking two local governments (Ukwa West and Ukwa East) and also online between Abia State and Akwa Ibom State, and opening up new avenues for economic growth, and social interaction, and improved access to essential services”, Chief Dimgba stated.
In their respective goodwill messages; Hon. Godwin Adiele, Member Representing Ukwa West State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly and HRH, Eze Chinyere Dike, Chairman Ukwa West Traditional Rulers Council expressed the gratitude of Asa people to the Presidency and NDDC for leaving an indelible mark in the community and prayed for its sustenance.
The Governor later flagged off the emergency re-construction of Oke-Ikpe to Akwete Ohambele Road, Phase II to be executed by Peoples Concept Nigeria Limited.
